Firefox rendering probs on GG&J?
Anyone else experience intermittent odd behavior with Firefox on GG&J?
Really strange stuff...column widths stretched...row heights stretched. Sometimes smilies pasted across entire rows. Smilies mis-aligned in the selection area...ya click on one and get the one next to it. Just weird behavior. Also, seems like when this is happening, the board is slower than usual. Been going on for a couple weeks off and on...thought it had stopped a couple days ago, then it started happening again tonight. GG&J is the only board...for that matter the only site where I'm seeing this. Anyone else seeing something similar? |
What version of Firefox? on XP?
Do you have pipelining turned on? if so, what do you have maxrequests set to? I use firefox 100% of the time and haven't ever seen it render improperly. Did you change any of your firefox config settings? Does restarting firefox fix it? restaring Windows? |
i fully blame the FSC MrYum :D on a side note how are you guys (sparky too) doing with the nice weather down there? looks like a real bitch from all the news coverage

WinXP Pro w/ All updates installed Pipelining is on w/ max requests set to 12 The only FF settings I've changed have to do with tweaking the network settings and pipelining and a few extensions. Since no one else apparently is seeing this, it must be something in the way I have FF tweaked. Odd though that I'm only seeing this behavior at GG&J. Kinda hoped you would step up and ask though...thanks very much Sparky :) As an example...right now, all the quote buttons on every post are showing up as the dancing banana...lol. And all the regular smiley faces are showing up as a big fuckin eyeball! Actually, it's almost entertaining at times like this :D Hangin in just fine here Kinky...some wind and rain, but nothing too severe. My banana trees are a bit tattered, but the bananas are still there so it's all good :D Feel bad for the folks up in the panhandle area though...looking like they're going to get the brunt of this thing :( |
My guess would be that you have pipelining turned on but what would I know I just sell porn for a living.

try turning pipelining down to 4 -- I had it at 12 and had problems with iframes opening up new windows and backed it down to 4, didn't see much of a speed difference from 12.
The other possibility is that you have some crosslinked files in the disk cache -- so that when a cached file is retrieved, it grabs the wrong file. Now the question is -- what is it specifically about the board that causes it since you haven't seen it anywhere else? |
I'm with Sweddude on this one. I guessing substantial drug use is to blame. ;)

Yea, very odd that this is the only place it's happening. Also, surprising I'm the only one seeing it apparently. Thought quite a few folks had pipelining enabled. Will let you know if those changes fix it up...thanks much Sparky :) The big eyeball is kinda cool though :D |

Cranked pipelining down to the default speed setting of 8...will drop to 4 if the prob recurs. Also flushed the cache...so far, all seems normal again. No more BIG eye balls and dancing bananas! Damn, that sounds funny...can see why the drugs thing came up...lol! Hey, at least I wasn't seeing dancing pink elephants! Oh wait...we have those too :D I'll keep ya posted if I start seeing things again |dizzy| |
An update...so far, so good |thumb
Had no idea pipelining could cause those kinds of issues on an intermittent basis...much less only on one site. And even though it was amusing at times...glad it's fixed! Thanks much Sparky...you definitely know your stuff |thumb |
Glad its working for ya. I also use firefox 99.99% of the time. I only use IE to check a site to make sure it looks ok in IE.

Like yourself...still use it to check my own sites, but that's about all. Actually, having cranked the pipelining back down to 8...seems as though FF is faster than it was at 12. Nice and speedy again now...and no more BIG eye balls on GG&J :D |

Another update...
Sparky...thanks so much man...that definitely seems to have solved the issue completely :) And actually, Firefox is faster overall with the pipelining reduced to 8 |thumb |
