Places to move?

Hi, im stuck in cold canada right now and im looking at some places to move, right now im looking at thailand and panama. I was just wondering if anybody here knows good places to move where porn is legal, cost of living is extremely cheap, tropical climate, english is common and where US money is like gold?

Cleo 2005-07-11 06:23 PM

know of any good sites that have affordable houses for rent there?

Ramster 2005-07-11 07:31 PM

Panama
Am awesome condo is about $2000 or so but it is 100% tax free. Imagine a place where everything you make you keep. (Bahamas too but rent there is like $6-7K)

AliMeBitch 2005-07-11 07:38 PM

holy crap 2000, i dont even make that yet, haha, tailand is looking better and better, seen some sweet houses with pools for around $550/month

AliMeBitch 2005-07-11 08:19 PM

What are the best ways to get a visa in panama if anybody knows?

juggernaut 2005-07-11 10:33 PM

You might want to keep in mind that you are looking for housing in places that will most likly be a very very dangerous place to live. $2000 is that for the month or the year? And you know most countries like this do not allow you to own a firearm. So there are only two type of people who will have one their. The cops who will most likly be paid off to look the other way, and the criminals who will most likly view you as easy pickens if you are not from the country or know nothing about it.

I lived in asia for almost 10 years, Japan, HK and the Philippines. I would move back in a second if I could.

Thailand is a great place to live. Just hotter than most can deal with.

yeah looking at places in panama, ive seen really nice condos in the city starting around $900 US per month, which isnt too bad considering the tax free life there, and other things are quite affordable, i hear that beer is about $0.30 per can in a grocery store there :D

Shark 2005-07-11 11:27 PM

Visit Israel, Eilat (my town) very hot place. Today +40.
Red sea, hotels, pubs, disco. And adult business is legal here!!!!!

Certifiedbitch 2005-07-12 04:52 AM

i think Thailand will be the best choice you can have for now.

Rocco 2005-07-12 07:51 AM

hehe, just make sure you don't go to the Philippines :D

Panama probly isn't the place you wana be high crime and they love outsiders because they are easy pckins.Nice places but thats where they target ya.
My brother lived there in the army for 10yrs and he was MP so was always packin and thats the only thing that made him feel safe and he was the right shall we say skin tone haha.

Are you serious? Unlike the US people do not carry firearms around with them. In Canada cops and criminals have them. Maybe a hunter during the right time of year and it is perfectly safe.

Of course you do live in New Jersey. :D

Alphawolf 2005-07-12 10:29 AM

Northern Thailand.

But.

You need to figure how you would get a visa 'moving' to any country without employment sponsorship.

All of the prices you see on the 'net will be very inflated.

It would be better to rent an average house 1st for like $110/mo, make some Thai friends and have them look into anything more expensive.

Thing that I like about Panama is that it is closer to home, no time change, fairly inexpensive, looks fairly easy to get a visa for permenant residence and there official currency is the US dollar.

Yup. I'd consider it if I didn't have kids. Tax free just has a nice ring to it. |bow|

You'll find that anyone on the net trying to get you to move to an area is going to overcharge. Take a flight to the areas you want to consider, bring some cash, get a hotel room, get the local paper, contact a local realtor (or whatever the local procedures are). There is nothing like renting something sight unseen and finding out it is in a bad part of town or isn't near the hot-spots or too far from anything or too close to anything.

Finding a new location to live without having visited and seeing what the local customs are and whether you even like the area would be difficult. If you're going to live there year round, go during tourist season and go during their 'bad weather' season. If you don't like rain, some tropical areas have quite a bit of rain. If you're looking for sunny outdoors tropics, then there are other areas to consider.

Tough decision to make until you've been put in it. When we made the decision to move to Florida, I looked at the averages, 69" of rain a year. We came and spent a month in the area, talked to people, found a place. Then we moved here in the middle of rainy season and for the next 30 days, our little city set a record for rainfall. Almost 60" of rain -- talk about thinking we made the wrong choice. Then we had a two year drought which is more what I thought Florida was going to be like. Since then, things have normalized and while I don't like rain, it is less of an annoyance than what I had to put up with living outside Washington DC. :)

Tough decision to make. Good luck with it.

You can rent my underground lair which is deep below cd34's backyard. Bring a wetsuit. ;)

AliMeBitch 2005-07-13 12:52 PM

Rain doesnt bother me too much, its the months of cold with temps dropping to -40 that bothers me in canada, im not one for cold weather at all, I like snow, but not the cold that goes with it, thanks for the advise cd34, I am gonna be doing alot of research on Panama and most likely visit there before I decide to move so that I can find a place and see what I'm going to get myself into, and I want to make sure that my income keeps on growing and is sustainable to make sure I can survive. As of right now there is no way, but every month my income is growing and is looking good, summer slowdown my ass :D

LOL well that was my point. If you go to Japan no one has a gun. It's illegal. So the only people who do have them are the bad guys and the cops. Being able to have a gun is a small factor in keeping some asshole from stealing or hurting you. When a criminal over here goes to rob a house he/she has a 50/50 chance that 2 feet in the door he will here the (click, click) from the shot gun down the hallway. In other countries you dont have that type of protection for yourself. But I guess you can always get a shit load of guard dogs.
Being an American and traveling to some places with my ex-government backround i'm just always paranoid about leaving this country for an extended period of time. There are still people who hate us. When I used to fly for my job I was required to leave all government ID's at home (never did). First thing bad guys do when they take someone is take there wallet to find out who you are. If you work for the government you are pretty much dead. It's just 10 years worth of dealing with crap like that, that makes me never want to travel anymore.

Agree 100% I wish we had a law here that required people who wanted to purchase a home to have to live in it for like 2 weeks. Lord knows I would have never bought this condo. Fucking white trash and shit heads that came out of the wood work about 3 days after I was here. Shit my first night here I had to deal with a neighbors dog barking constantly like a broken record till 3am (guess thats when shithead came home), kids doing there Vin impressions all night with their noisy fucking 4 cyl jap cars, kids (not teenagers kids like 8 yeas old)running around screaming a yelling till 2am. This place is just a nightmare to live in. Hindsite is 20/20, I should have stayed with my parents lol.
