Need some info on videos

Firstly what are the favourite sizes?

What are the favourite formats?

What are the favourite length of the clips?

Does any know or can recommend a good splitting and conversion program?

Depends what you're talking about Paul. If it's content that I'm using on my pay sites then it's DVD size MPG1. Sorenson Squeeze seems to be the best for converting to this format.

easy spliter is nice I do use it and also the joiner works good also.I used the procoder which is also good.To be honest its all about how much time you wanna learn to use things. There are alot of good products now out there and to be honest what works for some might not work for you.I would suggest the canpus capture card its bundled well and works nicely. But like I said what works for some might not work for others.
Also keep in mind that not every user has all the codecs to play stuff so you'll want to make sure its either user friendly aka braindead click and play or links to codecs and info.

Hey Paul...

What are the favourite sizes?
Many people are loving the full screen, that goes without saying why. Standard sizes like 320x240 seem to convert well for me. I would say, the bigger the better.

What are the favourite formats?
Wmv is first followed by mpg (in my experience).

What are the favourite length of the clips?
1 minute clips around 3mb.. or full clip of 10 minutes work best (again just my opinion). For webmasters making galleries, 10-20 second clips around 1mb worked best in my promotion.

Does any know or can recommend a good splitting and conversion program?
I use BoilSoft Video Splitter.

Just my two cents, but hope it helps.

Mpg is the only format that seems to work well on all platforms. Mac users, not sure about Linux uses, can view wmv files but the player sucks. Also mpg, unlike wmv files, can be easily protected with htaccess.

I'm a Mac user as are my associates so we use all Mac programs.
Angel does the editing in iMovie since it is so easy to use.
Then we bring it into Final Cut Pro to finish them off and add the copyright and turn the .dv files into mpg files.

To batch spilt movies we use ffmpegX.

320x240 is like the industry standard ;)
MPEG is like JPEG - avialable to all...
3x22 sec, or 4x16 is my choice and movie size from 1 mb to 2.5 mb...
Try this tool for splitting, conversion and optimisation : EO Video...

Don't confuse the industry standard MPEG-1 with any other form. MPEG-1 comes standard with Microsoft products. MPEG-2 must be licensed from a third party. There are some public domain MPEG-4 formats but none that are standard.

WMV is the highest quality easily available standard but it's a pain in the ass so MPEG-1 is preferred by some including me :)
