Sponsor closed down

Hi all,

I have a standard (index, main, gallery1, gallery 2) freesite based around promo content. The site's been online about 8 weeks, it's had okish traffic from LLs, and it's starting to pick up a little (a VERY little) from the SEs.

Unfortunately, the site's model (it's based around a single girl) wants out of the adult biz, and her webmaster has, quite reasonably, requested that links to the site be removed, freesites pulled etc.

So, what's the protocol here? I'll post the URL to a thread here so the links can be removed from LLs, but what do I do about the site? Pull the content and leave it 404? Redirect it elsewhere? Put up a page along the lines of "sorry, this site is dead, check out these others in this niche..."?

All thoughts appreciated!

Rob.

Post the URL so that we can pull it

There were 3 index pages, each with 12 recips:

http://www.free-fetish-links.com/sit...ts/index.shtml

http://www.free-fetish-links.com/sit...se/index.shtml

http://www.free-fetish-links.com/sit...se/index.shtml

If anyone here has this one in their database, by all means pull it. I'll be taking it offline in a couple of days, and replacing those pages with links to other sites in the niche - unless anyone thinks thats a bad plan?

You might just change the sponsor link code to the one for www.marianylon.com, very similar content, probably because Rich & Maria run both sites. I haven't heard why the site is closing, but the usual is that the model decided not to continue.

Thanks for that suggestion, Toby. In fact, I asked Rick earlier whether he'd rather I pulled the content down or changed the affiliate links to one of his other sites. He requested I pull the site, which is fair enough. I'll be putting up a new site based on content from one of his other sites today or tomorrow.

Why not just change the content/links/text to a new sponsor? The site is up and listed, you may as well do that to this site and save resubbing to 36 LLs. I realise it's a bit of faffing around, but no more than building a new one from scratch.

I was using the hosted galleries on my TGP's, those were easy to just pull from the database. I have just one gallery that I'd built myself and submitted to other TGP's. For the time being I just swapped out the affiliate codes, but when I get back from Internext I'll swap out the page content. I don't get alot of hits to that page anymore, but it does get a few now and then.

I wondered about that, Jel. But then it struck me that some LLs, or their bots, might not be too happy about it - could well be wrong about that, cos I've very little idea of how LLs are run from the admin's point of view. I mean, if that was common, folks could - and would, I'm sure - put up sites that complied with the LLs rules / content requirements, and then change them after they got listed.

Not that any different content I put up would intentionally break the rules, but even so, it wouldn't be the same as was originally accepted. In this case I'll just replace the current pages with links to related sites, but it'd be interesting to know what LL owners think about changing content in those circumstances for future ref.
