A sad day for journalism

I don't think that even tabloid journals would sink this low

RawAlex 2005-09-05 11:35 PM

Think that's bad? You gotta tune into Foxnews and listen to Bill O'Reilly trying to blame everyone EXCEPT the president for the slow federal response... the slow response which has almost certainly lead to those "bobbing bodies in the water".

The journalism sucks... the fast move to "blame everyone else" makes me puke.

I noticed that about an hour ago while looking at disaster porn on CNN.

All of you should understand that the following are to blame (in no particular order) for having had this disaster happen:

1. the President & his administration
2. FEMA
3. Homeland Security
4. the Governor Of Louisiana
5. The Idiot Mayor of New Orleans
6. The people that stayed behind - and STILL refuse to leave!
7. The oil companies in the gulf that could have helped in beefing up of the levee.

EVERYONE is to blame for not having that levee up to snuff and for not reacting faster.

To put the blame squarely on Dubya's shoulders ONLY is quite pathetic and ignorant. I personally am rather surprised that all y'all are pointing the finger at Bush only. That is wrong. The State, The City, The Governor, The Mayor and especially the PEOPLE that refused to leave (saying that they couldn't is bullshit) - that is who REALLY is to blame.

The people had been warned and warned and warned. Why did 80% of the city have enough sense to leave? What was wrong with the other 20%? Why did they think they could survive this tragedy? My understanding on this is that every effort was made to get these guys out! CNN has stated several times that the warnings were there!

I disagree with you and I do NOT believe anyone is to blame for this disaster happening. There is no way that 100s of millions of tax payer dollars would have been used to build stronger damns and pumps. No amount of lobbying or presidential support would have that happen.

The poor repsonce to the disaster is the fault of many and always leads up to the top. FEMA is run by a Dubya crony. If he would have flown to Washington on Tuesday and told that dumb fuck to jump then NO would have had supplies by end of day Tuesday and even you know that.

The problem was he did NOT care at all. He stayed on vacation. He didn't lead the charge or even ask someone to do something. He felt that a fund raiser in California was a higher priority then saving those lives. Look at his schedule and you'll see that. He also does not want to work with a Democratic Governer, Mayor or people that would elect such. Look at his posture and comments to these people.

You have Internet access and you can read.

They were warned that a category 4-5 would hit at some time in the future, and they knew the damns would only hold a cat 3... Still he wouldn't fund an upgrade of the damns, cause he used his dough on war... The way I see it, GWB is pretty much to blame.

During the past several years, money has been requested for the levees. It was always denied by congress being called "Pork". And I think, but could be wrong, it was approved last year but vetoed by our beloved president. Again, calling it "Pork".

The important question is not who is to blame for the flood, but who is to blame for the slow appearance of aid. For Christ's sake, it only took Europe two days to get aid to Asia after the Tsunami, and that is not only in a different country, it is on a different fucking continent. So how the bloody hell can it take 5 days to get aid to your own people in your own country. I am not only appalled that it took so long, I genuinely cannot see how it was actually possible to take so long. I mean even if they walked, they could have got there quicker.

Not looking for glib easy answers like "It is George W.'s fault" or "It is the Governor Of Louisiana's fault". But when they find out who it was that decided they should wait a while before sending in aid, I think that person is due some serious jail time (like 20 to life).

I'm English, America is not my home country, but even I am furious about this.

(Sorry if I rant.)

Cheney is still on vacation.

'nuff said.
