Another first freesite thread - please review

OK, so this is what I came up with (damn its harder than it looks :D )

http://www.calgarymodels.com/tgp/freesite1/

After the slew of rejections for the main site, should I even bother submitting this one?

And is it acceptable to submit a freesite that is two directories down from the main URL?

As always, thanks in advance for any eggs or ham you throw my way :)

Lemmy 2005-09-08 10:10 PM

I-frames, java script & anything remotely served will get you rejected almost everywhere.

Wazza 2005-09-08 11:01 PM

There's no site title

Mouseovers need to be http://www.herfirsttime.com not Her First Time

The gallery Links aren't clear enough - add and link text "Gallery One" to the thumbs to fix this

The AFF and Imlive ads are just plain blind - thumbs linked to a sponsor won't float anywhere

It scrolls widthways in an 800x600 window

Personally I hate ad rotators, ad servers and click counters - this is not true everywhere though (I'm picky on sponsors that trap surfers - and if I'm unable to see that from the linkcode I'm not listing the site)

That being said - it's far from the worst first attempt at a FS I've ever seen (you ought to see mine) ;)

CalModels 2005-09-09 12:33 AM

Thanks Lemmy & Wazza,

The AFF & ImLive will be retired (personally I find them a little irritating, but apparently they have good clickthrough?)

Thirty seconds after I posted the review request I remembered about the text links to the galleries :)

The ad server is my own but I see your point about the sponsors that try to trap people, so I should dump the ad server completely and put in static links to the banners (although being able to rotate the banners and serve them through a script gives me some added stats about clickthroughs and views etc in one nice location.. plus adding and removing the banners is a breeze)

You figure I'm within the limits as far as outgoing links etc are concerned? And would it get listed (after the changes)?

Wazza 2005-09-09 01:11 AM

I'd definately list it with those tweaks - there's a dire shortage of licensed true ridgy didge bonafide real amateur content out there.

I'm not sure why you're even promoting other sponsors on the site - but that's your call.

I don't really count out links and shit like that (as long as it's not taking the piss, I don't really care) - if it's 3 or under you'll be right at the majority of places.

Back on Cal Models itself I'd make those join links even BIGGER

:)

Preacher 2005-09-09 01:30 PM

...and even counting the terms of use and exit link as an outbound link you still only have two outbound links. I'd create another going strait to your join or root page with some snazzy ad text under a banner.

But I'd definitely list it! |thumb

Useless 2005-09-09 01:37 PM

Do you intend on making any of the suggested changes? I see no reason for me to waste my time when you haven't bothered to make any updates. Get cracking. It's no where near listable in it's current condition.

CalModels 2005-09-09 02:28 PM

OK, I did a 360 and got rid of everything except the links back to the main site, and all in text (well one reason because I have not had a chance yet to make any graphic banners yet for Cal Models :))..

http://www.calgarymodels.com/tgp/freesite1

Two questions

1. Can I submit that actual link? Even though its two directories down?

2. If answer to 1 is yes, can I just duplicate the structure but with just different pictures of other girls for multiple freesites (freesite2 & freesite3 which is just a copy of freesite1 html pages excluding the index.html page, but the main.html, gallery1 & gallery2 html href's are changed to other girls thumbnails... this was answered in another thread, but they were talking about duplicating the index.html and using the same images so they could get more recips on there) I just wanna make sure I didnt misunderstand that part...

Reviewers don't really care about directory location, although the reason one would prefer free sites to be only one dir deep is deeper you go less PR you're going to pass on to LLs and less SE traffic for yourself.

You're talking about "templates." If you do a search for templates on this board, you'll find you should have at least 30 unique templates. Just switching thumbs can get you blacklisted.

CalModels 2005-09-10 03:50 PM

Thanks Halfdeck... so should I go ahead and start submitting it? Would LL's list it in this state?

Halfdeck 2005-09-10 04:16 PM

Your index.html

You need a site title top of the page, maybe with some graphix to reassure the surfer he's at a site with porn.

I would make the enter link bigger than the exit link.

Separate boring text from your sales pitch. E.g. your terms of use text, which isn't necessary. I'd just not use it or put a small link on the bottom of page. You have copyright text, terms of use text, warning text and by the time a surfers' done reading that he won't bother reading "fashion & glamour" text.

Use small font for text you're not using toward making a sale. If possible, remove them, except the warning text.

"100% ...of 100%" text could be juiced up.

Main.html

You need more text on the page. Get the visitor horny. Talk directly to the visitor (or pretend you're talking to yourself) and establish trust/authority. Talk in detail about what the surfer will find at your site.

Gallery.html

You only have 2 links here. Add another link. Again more text.

Preacher 2005-09-10 08:49 PM

Like Halfdeck said I'd definitely make the Enter text larger and add more sales text to the main page. And on the gallery pages, you have text that reads: "Wanna See More Of Shephanie For FREE?" Yeah I do, so tell me how I can. I'd make that a hyperlink, with the name of the site in it, like...

Wanna See More Of Shephanie For FREE? Then click here to visit Calgary Models!!!

But all of this is just sales advise, the site is listable as it is now. IMO. :)

CalModels 2005-09-11 12:22 AM

|bow| |bow| to all of you.. thanks a bunch for all the help...

OK last time (I hope) and now I've added in a bunch of recip's there... how is it now?

Personally, the recip's look a little wierd, but I'm looking at 800x600 and through remote desktop that too...

Useless 2005-09-11 12:44 AM

OK, here's my take on it in its present condition.

You don't need a period at the end of the title. The text link below the title is blind. Tell the surfer (and the reviewer) where he's going if they click the link.

I personally like to see the title on the top of every page, but it's not a rule - just a preference.

Your thumbs are grainy/blurry. Bring them up to 5-7kb each. The dimensions of the full sized pics are all fucked up. They look like they were shot with a panoramic lense. Tall and narrow.

CalModels 2005-09-11 01:34 AM

Thanks. Period removed. Site added to the text below the title. and on the other pages I kinda figured that I link the title (eg Stephanie at http://www.CalgaryModels.com) that no good?

The thumbs are 25% of the fullsized pics and form the other threads that was apparently the recommended size for the thumbs...

As for the full sized pics, well it really is no bullshit... I really am an amateur photographer :)

What I have tried to follow is 640 long by whatever the crop was on the narrow...

Useless 2005-09-11 01:45 AM

25% of the full sized pic? Never heard that one before. ;) Your weight target for thumbs should be 5-7kb each. Yours are around 3kb, which is why they look sub-par.

Don't crop your full size pics so narrow. It just looks unnatural.

As far as the title goes, I was implying that it would be good to have "Amateur Models Stephanie & Lana" on top of each page. Don't give each page a different title. And if you do decide to put the title on top of each page (you don't have to) do not link it.

I consider the site listable as is, but you could you'll want to learn ways of improving your thumbs as you get more used to building free sites.

CalModels 2005-09-11 02:11 AM

UW if I were a woman and you ddin't have whiskers I would kiss you he he :)

OK so if it goes on a LL I'm guessing its good for traffic for about a week to 10 days? Guess I have to come up with another freesite pretty much right away and need to keep churning them out?

Lemmy 2005-09-11 08:43 AM

Why is my recip below PenisBot's? Just kidding. :D

I'd list the site as it is right now, but take UW's advice and it would be even better. Make your thumbs manually in PS or some other such program is the best way to go for quality. |thumb

CalModels 2005-09-11 12:43 PM

check... started on my second freesite this morning... damn this is hard work :)

CalModels 2005-09-11 09:56 PM

Woohooo... its great to see some acceptance emails after everyone except naughty.com rejected the main site :)

Thanks everyone for all the help....

Preacher 2005-09-12 12:03 AM

Naughty.com may have rejected you for the same reason I almost did. You mispelled your URL, and I got a 404. After checking into this thread and seeing the link up top work, I figured it out. ;)

I'll edit your submission to my site and get it right up. |thumb

Edit, one last thing, most LL's don't want the first letter of each word in the description capitalized, just in the title. :)

CalModels 2005-09-12 12:49 PM

Thanks Preacher :)

Figured out it was the damn autocomplete on firefox he he...

Check... first cap dissapears... Man I have so much to learn...

CalModels 2005-09-12 02:03 PM

Quick question... been reading about this autosubmitter program on the other thread and downloaded it to try it out... its creating entry warning pages like 1.html 2.html... 50.html etc as the entry pages (no index.html) so the submit gallery and recip links are http://www.abc.com/tgp/23.html and so on...

I thought that was a no-no? That all recips had to be on index.html and I could not duplicate the index.html file like index1.html et al?

selena 2005-09-14 02:17 AM

I'm not really following your question, but I would say that at this stage in the game you don't need to be concerning yourself with an autosubmitter. Most LL's (unless rules have changed drastically since I last read them) don't accept autosubmissions.

I've always just used index.html and index.htm in a single directory. I'd get confused as hell with 16 index pages in a file.

There was another thread regarding Advanced Submitter, which some webmasters seem to find useful. Other than that, I'd stay clear of any auto submitters. You don't want to submit warning pages with numbers in them.

You can duplicate index pages like index.html, index.htm, warning.htm, entry.htm but most of the high traffic LLs will only accept submissions ending in "/", "index.html" and maybe "index.htm."
