Sigs and Search Engine Value
ya know I just thought of something
if you had a link to your site in your sig and you posted a lot that would give you a lot of backlinks in the SES |

if you posted in 20 different threads
you would have 20 back links ok look at this http://www.tommys-bookmarks.com/please-signup.html it has a pr1 I never put up any links to it besides the one in my sig |
1500+ posts for a PR value of one hardly seems worth it. (but I still have link in there) ;)

Yes, you have a PR1 & you are also #1 for "Setup your submit account at Tommys Bookmarks" with the quotes :D

see hard work pays off

In the past I have found multiple pages in this board listed in Google's "pages that link to" searches, so I would guess that they do count multiple pages. Also, I sell advertising on eBay (obviously with links to the site I am selling advertising on), and one site I have that only has about 5 external links to it, got o PR2 rating when I forced Google to look at all my eBay listings selling advertising on it, and as the auctions were only on 2 eBay sites it had to have counted all the dynamically generated pages individually to give that site this score.

i think its might be the reason why so many people post bullshit at so many boards :)
just to get more links, but i dont think it can be considered as good hard links, its defently helps but not as much as people wants to |
Definitely not worth it... I'm testing this since January and the domain has pr1 only
|
I wasn't saying that its the end to your se problems
just that here was something that nobody thought of ...maybe the point I really wanted to make was how infinite the internet can be there are always new ways of creating new traffic of course Greeny doesn't want everyone putting a long list of links in their Sig and that's why he belittled it |
I did make the two clickable links in my sig a bit more SE friendly some time ago.
|
If anyone really hopes to get better PR from your sig, remember that Google only spiders occasionally, and on a dynamic site like this it only views a few pages each pass (I forget how many, but Google do tell you somewhere on their site, if anyone desperately needs to know). So the majority of threads will never be indexed. If you want your sig seen you will have to point Google at the pages with your sig on it by creating a page of links to the threads you are on, and submitting it to Google. (This will probably also help GG&J's PR as well.)
However if you are like me, and change your sig from time to time, you are probably wasting your time, because as soon as Google re-checks the pages that now have a different sig on it, they will drop your PR again. |
Oh, and I guess you'd better use html in your sig, not BB code (or worse, don't leave it to auto parse).
|
My site's brand new and my research says I got spidered quickly cus of my posts on boards, so I decided to include a hardlink to my site in my sig. Which reminds me it's time to switch mine up.
|
Tommy - from 5 years experience with board sigs - I can guarantee you that it is worth it :)
Now relying completely on sigs for all of the backlinks will not get you that much - but - like the old saying goes - every little bit helps For those of you worrying about what your PR number value is - where the fuck do you get the idea that you know what number PR your page really is - there is no way (outside of working for Googleplex) right now to calculate that value - and I hope you are not using the toolbar to tell you your PR of a page - if you are - youve got a lot to learn grasshoppers :) |
ecchi, why don't you link to your site in your sig with "Website Traffic Club" instead of "click here" ?
|
Dunno I never though about it. But if I had any sense I'd fill the link with keywords to interest the SEs (eg. "Click here for The website traffic club, get hits, surfers, site visitors, free search engine advertising, free banner advertising, free text adverts"). However If I did I would probably be breaking a sig rule or two.
|
Never thought about it?
mmmm... So your Website Traffic Club must work like a charm than even without search engine keyword traffic to your site? Just curious how you can sell your offer? Would I really see search engine surfers if I signed up? |
I could not find your sites at all in the search engines ecchi (tried many keywords to find you) not even on "click here" search ;-) So mabe try a keyword sig or 2 or a 100.
Tommy, they do work! Some sites I follow go over board and use software to automate but that is wrong. Always do a keyword sig in your posts for sure though. I think (sometimes). |
RE: "So mabe try a keyword sig or 2 or a 100" Hey that is a good idea, I am sure none of the moderators will object if I have a hundred word sig, and I expect that the "sig-bot" will understand and not delete my signature.
RE: "I could not find your sites at all in the search engines ecchi" Which engines did you try? Both Google and Yahoo list it (I just tried them). RE: "Just curious how you can sell your offer?" It sells well, but I don't ask my members why they join up. If you mean "how do people find it?" then see my last comment in this post. RE: "Would I really see search engine surfers if I signed up?" What you get is advertising on a search engine, I find this gets me search engine traffic. However it depends on how good your advert is, and as I have found that many people cannot write good copy to save their lives, those people are probably going to get very little out of the deal. Only the "reasonably intelligent" are going to benefit. Reading through your post, you seem to think that by not stuffing my signature with keywords I am seriously loosing traffic. You have a very inflated view of how good your sig is as a traffic puller. It helps a little, but not much. You will notice that some of the big hitters do not even use their sig for links. To succeed in this business you really need to worry less about your sig as a traffic source and more about other ways of getting traffic. Also you should think a bit more about good board etiquette. The idea of this (or any) board is NOT to spam your sig to get more traffic, that may be an extra benefit, but it is NO reason to do so. |
Sorry suddenlysex after submitting my last post I noticed your post count. I did not realise you were a newbie I thought you were someone I had seen on the boards for a long time (I must be confusing you with someone else) and my reply was written under the assumption that you had been in the business for a while. Some of it was a bit harsh to throw at a newbie.
What I should probably have done is suggest you spend a bit of time looking into methods of getting traffic, and the relative merits of each methods (there are plenty of WM sites with articles on this). If you hope to succeed in this business, that is the most important thing you need to know (and you will find you spend a hell of a lot of time chasing traffic). |
