Free Sites and Sponsor Popups
Most Links Lists require no consoles or popups on the free site itself. Does this extend to when the surfer clicks on a sponsor link too or is the surfer considered to be off the free site once they click on the banner? Thanks in advance for your help.

I think you'll find LLs leaning towards decline when your sponsor has lots of pop ups too, not just the freesite. Personally, I don't mind an exit pop up from the sponsor that you can close with one click, but the ones that just keep going on and on are quite annoying |angry|
There have been a couple of threads lately about this & it looks like excessive consoles from your sponsor are a no-no. No one wants to piss off their potential bookmarkers. All in all, I'm sticking with no console tours :) Ponygirl |
I'm just concerned with what's on your domain, but IMHO everyone should use the no-pop tours if they are available.

Yep, agree with Ponygirl |thumb
There have been a couple threads recently about some of the sponsors getting overly agressive with their popups. I spent a few hours the other night going back through most of my old links to one sponsor in particular who's now got consoles that pop in Firefox. Frankly they piss ME off when I get consoles and I'm running software to stop the damn things |angry| Opinions vary, but I don't see how sponsors think that finding ways to pop consoles on surfers who specifically have tried to stop consoles is going to generate sales. But then again, I've never understood why surfers continue to buy crap from spammers either |dizzy| Bottom line, I'll be avoiding sponsors or using their console free links if they have agressive consoles. Including consoles that pop in Firefox or intentionally bypass pop up blockers. |
Like I've said in other threads, if I click on your sponsor and can't click back to your site in one click I won't list your submit. Notice I didn't say no popups just no browser hijacking, or resizing etc. |angry|
Consoles are just one factor in my determination but they are the biggest factor. Followed closely by overused content. :( |
Thanks all. I had a sponsor console pop-up when the banner ad was clicked on the gallery pages but I decided to remove. I put it there because, in my short experience, it seems most people buy based on the index or main pages so I figured a more persuasive method on those pages might help sales. If it jeopardizes getting accepted at any LL the best thing to do, IMHO, is just take them off.

Console free tours are what I suggest but couple easy-to-close pop-ups/exits are fine too.
Those which force to full screen, give prompts etc. are things I hate to see. Also, if I were surfer I would get pissed off with sites that disable back button. |
Here's a special top secret insight to my reviewing habits: I hardly ever click on sponsor links. If I think you are marketing something questionable or it's a site I've never heard of, then I'll click-thru, but that's about it. I review your free sites, not your sponsors. That being said, I feel you should treat the surfers well and avoid pop-ups when possible. I also think more sponsors screw us than pay us on pop-up generarated sales.

The reason I won't list them if you can not click back to the site in one click is because surfers are curious and stupid.
They either click the sponsor link because they are curious and don't want to buy at them moment and want to click back. Or they are stupid and hit the wrong link and want to click back to the site. If they can't click back to the site they probably won't come back I've lost a potential bookmarker and a potential sale for one of the sites where he or she may find something they like. :) |
