Afew jpeg questions
First I'd like to say HI all(guess this is a good place to start)
I'm a really keep it simple keep it stupid kinda guy, when it comes to HTML.I would like to make free sites to kinda get better at html..I thought about tgp's its on hold .Anyways I would like to know what a standard size for thumbs and pix is I compressed a 100k down to 42k at 500x375 pixels without losing it,but I look at sites and they are much bigger and i really don't know what size is right or what size the thumbs should be.Just lookin for a average I guess. tanx for any help now i shall slink back to neverland haha just kiddin. tiny |
Welcome tiny,
The standard for pics are minimum 500 pixels on the long side. I get lots of submission at the moment that have HUGE pics - 1024x768 and above and I decline most of them... reason.. a huge amount of surfers are still on dialup connections and they are not gonna sit there and wait to download a 150K+ pic;( Thumbnails.. vary a little.. but 100-140(longside) is probably about standard - remember clear large-ish thumbnails.. work better than tiny compressed ones.. and may just save you a little bandwidth. You can always put the URL for a site right here and we can have a look at it for you. DD |
tanx for the reply, like I said SS hehe.I'm actually embrassed Ive been on the damn net to long not to play with things more then I should i guess.I think at 500x375 its alil bigger i was using 500x300 and the size was averaging 45k but i got one at 65k anyways here's what I was talking about its just the thumbs and the pix are linked so you can click them

Hi tiny :)
The quality on those pics looks great, which means you can probably compress them (not resize) & still have a decent looking picture. You can tell by looking at the thumb size they may be a little too big (10k is probably double what you can get away with for a clean thumb sample) & 500 on one side it pretty much the minimum - I use 640x480 or 600x450 for msot of my free sites & galleries :) |
Hi tiny, |waves| welcome to the new board :)
I usually make my pic 700 on the long side but I use a sweet compression tool so that the pic and thumbs look great, but still remain between 40-45k for pics, 3-5k for 150 long side thumbs. |
Welcome to the board Tiny. :)
I do my pics 640 on the long side for a file size between 20k to 40k. |
Wow tanx for the welcpme :).I played with it and I kinda settled on the 600x450,I got a good size out of it expect the damn one that I'll play with(bad jpeg bad) hahaha but i think i got it to acceptable maybe haha

Something to bear in mind if you are doing TGP.
Some scripts (brownie) won't accept pics under a certain size. I have had some galleries rejected because the pics were smaller than 40k. |
Actually willf I'm going to try the free sites thingie.I like the actual fact that it can have alil more staying power and probly have my own LL someday.
Don't get me wrong I have played alil with having my own tgp but for now I've kinda put it on hold. I like the not jumpin through a ton of hoops like you have to do with tgps .Yeah I'm aware of the file size but thats why i'm going with the freesites build them and move on to the next, but nothing ventured nothing gained right :) tiny |

Hiya Tiny!
Great to see ya here man. Never thought I would run into ya on the boards. SuperJpg is a great program esp for renaming them when ya get a bunh that have all cap ext like .JPG and the server will.............well, you know LOL The freesite looks great man, nice and clean and the content is yummy. I built a few freesites not long ago, but I kept attempting to get more and more complicated in the designs until I finally ran out of ideas and took a break (it's been a few months now heh heh) Keep it up and good luck with them and your plans for a LL. Let me know if there is anything I can help with, I would be happy to. spaz |
