General Link list Questions

anyone who can assist would be appreciated :)

1. what is considered a mirror site
2. Is it becoming standard practice to require all files in same directory
3. How many links on an index page is considered too much?

Thats it :) thanks everyone

Surfn 2005-10-13 10:51 AM

3 varies from builder to builder.

Hi there! here's my answers -

1. I *think* that a mirror is the duplication of the freesite into different folders so that you can submit to many different LLs - as opposed to a doorway, which is just the index page replicated many times.
The difference is that the doorway pages all lead to the same main/gallery pages & a mirror index will lead to it's own main/gallery pages. Does this make sense? Perhaps someone could explain it better :)

2. I see most LLs doing this now, I personally don't like to see the main/gallery pages jumping all around. This is tied into your first question as well. Not many LLs like doorway pages.

3. If you are asking about sponsor links, 3 is the norm, including any outlinks to hubs etc. I also am thinking about counting exit links if they go to a sponsor, adult or not. Anything that could potentially make $$ is an outgoing link, imo.
If you are asking about recips, there's a lot of discussion on this lately, but anywhere from 6-24 seems to work. I like lots of recips (within reason) - the more traffic, the better.

Hope this helps, I'm sure you will get lots more input on this here :)

So to sum things up its better to have mirror sites then doorway pages

ie:
domain.com/dir/dir pointing to domain.com/dir is bad (doorway)
domain.com/dir/ pointing to domain.com/dir/ is good (mirror)

I guess I may have misunderstood. In my vernacular "links" are recips. "Sponsor links" are sponsor links.

Think you'll find better acceptance ratios this way :)

Ponygirl summed it up quite well |thumb

About the only thing I'd somewhat disagree with is the exit link. It's gotta be non adult of course. But, if it's linked to one of the little ppc services like 'warning pages', I see no need to count it as a 'sponsor' link. If for no other reason than those exits pay virtually nothing. And according to my server logs, get very very few clicks.

LOL - mmm ectoplasm ;)

Mr Yum's quite right, that's why I dropped the exit link on most of my sites - didn't make a single $ off 'em.
I haven't declined for those links, I probly wouldn't unless I'm in an especially pissy mood or the site sucks but I can't find any rules broken :D

I was going to say - I was told to drop the exit links is there anyone out there who doesnt allow that?

btw - thanks for the detailed description :)

standard - what is the max # or recip links you recommend per site. I am currently holding 12 but would like to do more per site, especially if I am copying the files over and over again.

will a site with 24 recips really get accepted everywhere? i remember the old rule used to be 8 max, seems that has really changed and i like the idea of being able to have more recips on one page. would give it more backlinks meaning better pr but should i start with a smaller number until people know my sites and i am trusted?

That's probably a good idea :)

Preacher 2005-10-13 09:18 PM

Seems like the general trend has been to allow more recips then in the past. My advice, use your best judgement and don't let it look like a banner farm and you'll probably be ok.

a good thing is to customize ll recips so they look nice on the freesite if you plan to have 12+ recips.

cybersexhound 2005-10-14 09:54 AM

thats one thing Ive started doing - Ive lost a couple LL's because of it but they where smaller ones anyways :)
