Wordpress Autoupdate

do you know how to spend less time updating blog everyday?
Please post some tips here..
For example: Ive tried to post by mail and failed..
I followed all wordpress inctructions but still nothing...
I am confused :(

This is definitely a low tech approach, but when I'm on a roll I just write up a lot of posts and save them as drafts. Easy enough to publish later at the click of a button.

its not low tech.. I could write cronjob mailer easily :)
about drafts.. on this forum someone suggest to draft posts with certain date in the future so they will be posted automatically when their time will come..
if so will it run ping services on wordpress?

simply edit the post time/date on each entry I do mine weeks ahead of time, all automatic

I am not sure blog will be pinged this way
we have 4 blogs and i do appreciate any help to maintain em from 1 place..
I think post by mail should help me out..but for some reason it doesnt work for me..Ive created secret email.. set in wordpress its mail settings (pop3 and pass and login) and it seems to me wordpress dont check mail there not to say it publish it :)

could you clear it a bit?
how exacly do you call it?

walrus 2005-10-18 10:17 PM

Easy go to Ping-O-Matic enter your blog name and URL, check the places you want to ping and go. Then save as a bookmark. Do that for each blog.

Don't forget Ping Goat check the places you want to go, go and then save as a bookmark.

With pingoat, it will start pinging as soon as your recall the bookmark. Ping o matic, you have to actually click the go button (or what ever the fuck the button is called)

Wordpress items with future date/times are good but if you want the ping to go out at the right time you need to install a plugin.

WP-Cron Future Pings http://www.skippy.net/blog/plugins/

This will cause the ping to happen at the pre-schedule publish time instead of the time you save.

Thanks for that tips...Usefull info...I didnt do it coz wordress call pinggomatic fro me..
do you know if one call the same service twice or more.. with no updates..
what may happen in worst case then?

hony 2005-10-19 04:18 AM

Can't see any problem, the ping services have to be able to handle lots of extra pings given that if you edit/save it makes another ping!

hony..my respect..usefull link

No prob, just getting to grips with Wordpress and collecting the right plugins is part of the challenge! Started to write my own, not that hard it seems.

SortLinks 2005-10-19 08:17 AM

rigth..php is a must for any webmaster :)

SortLinks 2005-10-25 03:33 PM

experimented today with future posts..it work, but
It seems to be annoyin to fill out by hand and change time stamp each time :).
Looks like I have to write script which will send data directly to mysql db..then ping pingomatic...or I could have it sheduled via cronjob
BUt before I'll start.. may be you already know plugin for that?

SortLinks 2005-10-26 06:14 AM

1)I have pingomatic in wordpress
should i call it by hands if I update blogs on "future basis"
2)If I call pingomatic will it hurt if I'll call pingoat as well? (they have matches )

Change the time is too hard? You just gotta click a few buttons and enter a time -- how is WP going to know what time to post unless you tell it?

Im used to optimising everything...its not hard but boring
answer on 2d question: cronjob 2 times per day (like brushing teeth)

Thumbler 2005-11-02 10:44 PM

Buy a piece of software then, there are quite a number available!

SortLinks 2005-11-03 03:42 AM

Thumbler , could you please suggest me something?

BTW Ive just managed to write script which convert text keywords into post categories.. (extremely easy to do :) ) Encouraged, planing to write autoupdate myself :)
