Its Officially a Google Update

Guess Matt Cutts finally gave in and posted in his blog that Google is just about done with their update theyve been doing for the last few weeks - and the last little tweaks will come in for the next few days

Hope I get something good out of this update
Since google came out with pagerank I havent gotten much if anything from google:(

Bill 2005-10-18 07:18 PM

It will be interesting to see if a pagerank update does follow in a few days. Matt doesn't seem quite sure.

I know, I know, pagerank updates continuously, it's just the toolbar that get's updated. But it's always good for a few smiles or groans when it happens.

Let's hope this is a rising pagerank toolbar update, where we see more increases than decreases. Those are fun.

If I see even a handful of "supplemental result" flags dissappear from my pages, I'll be a happy camper.

Bill 2005-10-19 10:52 PM

I believe I'm starting to see pagerank changes.

Either that or it's a toolbar glitch.

2msacras 2005-10-19 11:06 PM

Im really confused by my page ranks now...they're all better than they used to be...im not used to that

Linkster 2005-10-19 11:21 PM

Bil - it should be rolling out now as well as a backlinks update - keeping in mind that these new "displayed" PRs are not the current - probably about 3 months old or so :)

natalie 2005-10-20 01:09 AM

ooo 2 new mainstream sites I started a few months ago are finally 'displaying' pr 4.

Preacher 2005-10-20 11:25 AM

Woohoo just what I've been waiting for, my pr changed...in the wrong direction!!! Doh! |cry|

Lemmy 2005-10-20 11:48 AM

Some sites I put up less than 2 months ago jumped straight to PR3, probably won't last.

Preacher 2005-10-20 01:10 PM

Well on the upside my category pages got rated, so I guess it's a trade off.

Linkster 2005-10-20 01:32 PM

I wouldnt get to concerned about what youre seeing update on the toolbar or those "check your PR" sites - these are old numbers (around 3 months old normally when they update the toolbar) and do not reflect your current real PR. Just another nice thing Google does for you :)

Preacher 2005-10-20 01:52 PM

I know, the problem is most webmasters use it when considering traffic trades.

Linkster 2005-10-20 01:58 PM

Preacher - although I know Ive said it many times - I wouldnt even consider trading links with someone if they based it (or even mentioned PR) on the toolbar :) Shows me they dont know what they are doing

Bill 2005-10-20 02:09 PM

Basing trades on pr value is obviously silly, and indicates a mind trapped in 2003, or at least someone not up to date.

I don't think mentioning it is a problem. It does at least indicate that google has seen and spidered the site, even if the number itself is a fiction.

But then, I would say that, since I have mentioned pr numbers in trade offers, and expect to do so in the future. I know that a lot of people are still obsessed with pr, so I figure it provides a bit of social lubricant.

SortLinks 2005-10-21 05:20 AM

Some of my sites got better results...Keep working..I belive there will be much more new trade offers from guys very soon :)
Congrats to everyone who have non nul PR this update. you deserve to celebrate it :)
and Linkser is right PR doesnt mean much..

BlackCrayon 2005-10-21 06:43 AM

how do you find out the corrent pr if the toolbar is wrong? i've never paid much attention to it but it does have some value unless im wrong, isn't pr related to the number of sites linking to you and the number of sites linking to them, etc?

Linkster 2005-10-21 07:47 AM

BlackCrayon - you can guess at it - but why even worry about the number - it has nothing whatsoever to do with where you place in the search results - the thing that affects that is your real pagerank - and there is no "easy" way to figure that

Corleone 2005-10-21 02:46 PM

PR 3-4

checking my rankings now :)

Bill 2005-10-21 04:58 PM

It is kind of strange seeing all the trade requests where almost nothing is mentioned except the pr.

No talk of niches, keywords, relevancy, age, position on page, or position in serp.

I think because it's so 'convienient' of a standard, it tends to swamp all the other standards.

And, that the pr rage (late 03/early 04) in the tgp field "imprinted" so many people with it's theories and language.

The more recent SE models haven't penetrated that mindset yet.

rscott 2005-10-21 08:49 PM

So whats the value of it? It can't be that old, my sites only 2 mos old. The toolbar shows PR3 and this site
http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/future-pagerank/ shows PR2.

Yauhen 2005-10-22 08:03 AM

You will all laugh at me. I know that PR has to do nothing with real positioning of a page on google, but there's one really strange thing that happened after the official update day. I had quite a number of pages with PR0. They all got PR2 and PR3. And you know what! Looks like I get twice as many hits from google on those pages compared to what I used to have before the update.

Is it possible? Maybe I just see the things the way I'd like them to see.

Of course it's possible. It's just that the two aren't DIRECTLY related, that's all. Sounds like you've just done all the right things and G is rewarding U |thumb
