Can someone test a few of these links for me??

I'm having some major video playback problems I am trying to get to the bottom of. If somebody could click a few of these links and write down how they play for you -- I will owe you a nice favor down the line. Thanks.

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/realit..._movie_03.html

(Freezes on the first frame in page)

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/realit...es/video03.wmv

(freezes on the first frame – yet, in the “now playing” list shows that there is 10 seconds of video in the file)

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/realit..._movie_02.html

(plays about a second of the video)

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/realit...b57_30_062.wmv

(does the same thing – but shows that it should be a 30 second clip)

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/realit..._movie_05.html

(plays about a second of the video)

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/realit...ies/video5.mpg

(freezes on the first frame – yet, in the “now playing” list show that there is 0 second of video in the file)

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/realit..._movie_03.html

(does not play at all)

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/realit...ies/video3.wmv

(does not play at all – but shows 10 seconds)

I had the same problem with a couple of mpgs the other day on another program's hosted stuff - our tech guy here on the board said they were encoded incorrectly & sent this info on one of the movies:
mcd@tsavo:/tmp$ telnet hosted.brookeskye.com 80
Trying 69.50.252.131...
Connected to hosted.brookeskye.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
HEAD /gg/e02m/brooke05.mpg HTTP/1.0
Host: hosted.brookeskye.com

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: Zeus/4.3
Date: Fri, 21 Oct 2005 15:51:48 GMT
Connection: close
Content-Length: 2064388
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Content-Type: text/plain
Last-Modified: Mon, 17 Oct 2005 15:20:56 GMT

I sent that info the the sponsor & their tech guys knew what it meant :)

I think there's a new movie making program out there that's fucking up the movies when you try to play them in the defauly WMP :(

#5 & 6 play fine. The rest freeze up right away. WMP 9

I just took a look at a few of them -

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/reali...s_movie_03.html - flashed a pic and died

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/reali...ies/video03.wmv - wouldn't load

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/reali...s_movie_02.html - played fine

http://www.jays-xxx-links.com/reali...k_movie_05.html - flashed a pic and died

With WMP 10

Firefox:
1-freezes on first frame
2-I get nothing but the raw video code in my browser, have seen this recently on a few submitted sites but never really got to the bottom of it.
3-freezes on first frame
4-I get nothing but the raw video code in my browser
5-plays fine
6-plays fine
7-freezes on first frame
8-I get nothing but the raw video code in my browser

IE 6:
1-plays about 2 seconds
2-plays about 2 seconds
3-freezes on first frame
4-freezes on first frame
5-plays fine
6-plays fine
7-freezes on first frame
8-freezes on first frame

Hope this helped a little. Seems Firefox may be giving a bit more of a hint here.

MadMax 2005-10-28 09:55 AM

Same here....

Greenguy 2005-10-28 10:27 AM

I only ask because that's the problem I was getting - and if I went back to a movie that failed to play & clicked it again, it worked the 2nd time.

I get exactly the same results.

Also like Max, have seen this on a few sites lately and have yet to figure out wtf causes it.

I did not have any issues with the ones that open in media player (WMV). I'm using version 10.00.00.3646
1st movie in html worked fine
2nd movie in html froze on 1st frame.
3rd movie in html worked fine, just looks like a size issue IE its not 320.240 it seems smaller but dont know if you meant it that way.
4th movie in html has nothing at all. just a black area..

same here

Halfdeck 2005-10-28 04:00 PM

I checked the first one; movie doesn't play on NN or IE. This is the code I use to embed movies on a page, although it doesn't work with FF:

type='application/x-oleobject'>

Thanks a lot guys -- I have a lot more info to work with now. If anyone wants to click a few more -- I am still harvesting data.

cd34 2005-10-28 04:55 PM

No need to harvest further, have your server guys fix the content-type/mime type and you'll be good to go.
