Overwhelmed By Choices ...help?

I am looking to purchase a Global Positioning System (GPS) for my car - after doing some searches on google I am overwhelmed with all the choices, and not knowing anything about them I feel lost -

Can anyone recommend a good GPS they have had or currently use?
Would like it to have maps for Canada/USA of course - turn-by-turn - voice directions as well as on screen directions - I noticed some are portable (can be hand held or plugged into the car) that would be ideal!

Any suggestions are welcome!
thanks in advance,

Emerald

Oh yeah...it isn't a recommendation, just something to look at.

Just go buy a new car - it comes standard in most these days :D

I have a portable one for my motor home. Why do you need a portable one? When you stop at rest areas do you need it to find your way back to your vehicle from the potty? :D

Thanks for the lead Jim :)

GG: I am buying a new car.. and I have asked for a GPS to come with the car but it seems most dealerships here dont offer it unless it is in their high end very very expensive cars - guess Canada is behind in the car technology department.

Surfin: I just figured it would come in handy if I went travelling and was walking about in the city.. can carry it with me while being a tourist on foot :) I'd certainly not take my car into NY - would use public transportation there! The few I did look at worked on battery also :)

If you're going for a portable one the TomTom one definately is the one to go. I've been using one myself. Not too expensive and easy to upgrade.

Hi Emm |waves|

If you haven't found anything yet, in the latest issue of PC Connection they have one similar to mine. But a lot cheaper $599.00 It's a Quest Ultra portable GPS with voice. Their item #5349287.

Good luck :)

Mine is built in to the car

even though I am very good at getting around I use it a lot
best features for me are

never needing directions or even worring about how to get anywhere again

never having to look for street signs

knowing where gas stations and stuff is before I get off an exit on the highway

marked points - see something you like for instance a store or resturant
just press mark point on it and you can always get there and you have the address

VOICE - its so nice to just space out on highways and not have to worry about missing your exit

rerouting like if theres heavy traffic or construction

Like I said I love mine, use it all the time

ohh yeah
I just wanna add
I love mine so much, there is no way I would ever consider buying a car that didnt have one

Found this one a while back and love it on the other car - although it is a little tough getting it out for walking around:

You might be a redneck if you know the GPS coords of your deerstand and duck blind :)
