Webmasters' Choice Awards

Would you support a program to honor adult webmasters, one with legitimacy where webmasters choose the nominees and then voted on the final nominees?

What categories would you include?
1) Best Link List
2) Best TGP
3) Best Message Board
4) Best Affiliate Program
5)

Beaver Bob 2005-11-19 04:42 AM

Best affiliate support
Best self managed ( REAL) amateur site
Best non-'celeb' company rep
Most knowledgable company rep

oh- and best attempt of a webmaster pretending to be a Francophone model writing in fluent English on a webmaster board. :-D

Anyway, it would be nice to see legitimately hard working people honored for thier efforts, free from the pressures of advertisers and old boy network politics.

Surfn 2005-11-19 12:42 PM

I would vote for LOR as best up and coming LL. :D

Tommy I would vote for you the following year. :)

Hammer 2005-11-19 06:17 PM

Maybe I missed something but IMO, graphic designers, porn stars, indie girls, and affiliate programs are not webmasters.

emmanuelle 2005-11-19 10:01 PM

Ya, I think you did miss something....

If you think that indie girls like Trixie, Sammy, Allie or FurryGirl are not ultra qualified webmasters, then I'm certain every one of them would be happy to educate you.
Running one's own site, featuring one's own ass as the content is probably the most comprehensive webmaster position in the industry.

Toby 2005-11-19 10:28 PM

Hammer, I think perhaps you're confusing the term webmaster with web developer.

GonZo 2005-11-20 12:31 AM

I voted.

Specifically keeping my ass OFF the internet is a full time job :)

Seriously, I have much respect for "web girls", especially the ones that manage not to get screwed over by dsl-pimps (our own version of a suitcase pimp).

AMEN to that.. I know for a fact, using Trixie as an example, not only do they put themselves out there, they invest in their own equipment, arrange photoshoots and do their own design and development just to keep their membership rates cost effective and those re-bills coming!! |thumb

That is a very broad statement - I know a lot of webmasters (myself & a lot of people on this board included) that also fit into 1, if not more of those categories.

ClickBuster 2005-11-20 12:41 PM

What do you think about "Best freelancer" with subcategories for different services such as coding, design, SEO, administration and security, etc?

Greenguy 2005-11-20 12:51 PM

HEY! My entire business is run out of my basement! :D

MadMax 2005-11-20 01:14 PM

I think this is a great idea, and I'd be happy to throw in any support I can if you want to get something going Chop |thumb

I kind of see the nominations for the Xbizawards as a Webmaster's Choice Award. Afterall, it is the webmasters that do the nominating and just a small group of judges that pick the winners.

But a real Webmaster's Choice Award would be great. The only problem would be to make sure that the voting box didn't get stuffed..if you know what I mean. One vote, one person...

How about limiting the nominations as well. Isn't it a little silly to nominate one's self?

Personally I have backed out of judging one of these 'competitions' due to the judging criteria. I found it offensive and did not want to be associated any longer.
