Who uses Amazon for Christmas Shopping?

OK, I do have a reason for asking. But, for now, just let me know if you use Amazon for Christmas Shopping. Even if it is used just a little.

No, but I do have an idea.

As everyone knows by now, my wife has her own legal charity where she gets lists from local schools of poor children. Mostly teens since the regular Toys for Tots takes care of the young children. She then takes that list and goes out and buys gifts for the kids since they are mostly overlooked.

I have never asked anyone online for money for this. But, if you shop using Amazon, I can setup a quick affiliate program and if you guys do your first search from there, she will get paid for everything you buy. It would cost you nothing and yet, help with the kids. She does get donations from local businesses so if you don't want to use it, that's OK. But, every little bit helps.

Anyway, this is not the first time you will see this link but when going to Amazon, go here first

I think it's great your wife shops for the teenagers Jim! They are over looked for the little ones which is sad. I think it's a great idea and I do shop a lot on Amazon! I hope I can help her out some as it's a wonderful thing she's doing |thumb

I just didn't want people to think this was just a spur of the moment thing where she doesn't have the proper paperwork. And as you know, she has been doing it since 1998. I have not ever nor will I ever ask for money from you guys for this. This is just an easy way to help out. I would put the link here but, I think Amazon wouldn't care for it much. :)

If I do use Amazon, I'll definitely go click on your site first. I don't use them much for Christmas (use eBay more) but I'm a book-a-holic and I do look for books there. ;)

It is a great thing your wife is doing. When I was a silkscreener doing T-Shirts, I always gave all my "rejects" to a local charity that gave free food and clothing to homeless people. They loved to see me coming, because the shirts were all brand new, and usually it was only a slight flaw that made it so I couldn't sell them. Always made me feel really good to be able to do that, good for her! |thumb

The first year Pattycake did her Christmas thing, we took on 20 kids. I thought it was just send her some money. But it was much like what we do. We had to shop for each child in different countries. The Walmart gift cards didn't work very well :) But we did buy a lot of other things too.

I am still pissed that the first year we started, I donated $10,000 to it and nothing was written in the paper. The next day, there was the American Legion with a giant $300 check for Vickie on the front page :)

I used to hate when I was a kid and being an only child, I got a ton of gifts. My Mother really went crazy Christmas time. And I would ask some of my friends what they got and I would hear, "I got a new pair of pants". Or something similar.

Each year, with donations from local businesses and the money Vickie squirrels away, we end up spending about $300 on each teen. Last year, she had 97 kids. This year it looks like even more.

We get faxes from schools now but she used to have to go to the schools to explain what she was doing and some of the kids would call her Mother Christmas :)

Since I'm single and all my relatives were either nice enough to die or move away and disappear I don't really do any Christmas shopping, but things are much more peaceful if not kind of boring, but I do shop on Amazon regularly.

Surfn 2005-11-20 08:37 AM

I won't use Amazon. However if I did I would use your link Jim :)

docholly 2005-11-20 08:46 AM

Jim 2005-11-20 08:58 AM

Thanks everyone...
This was really the only way I could think of to ask for money without asking for money. I never will ask you guys so don't worry about that.

Why not? I think it's a great thing you guys do. I wouldn't be the least offened if you asked for money from all of us. Nowdays will all the scams out there it would be nice to donate to a charity that you know is safe and a good one. Sorry just my 2 cents.. |thumb

I just would really never do it. We do get quite a bit of money from local businesses and the local stores give us great discounts. This is more extra than anything else. My wife has more kids this year and we are a little short. If nothing else, I will dip into my tree cutting money.

Maybe next year i will setup something for Vickie where if you want to, you can donate money. I guess not asking you guys for money is kind of the way I am built. Nothing wrong with it for the right Charity and this the type that would qualify but...I just can't do it.

Just if you shop Amazon, even after Christmas, use
http://www.christmas-vacation.com to get there. If money comes in after Christmas, it will go into the Charities account for next year.

She started this with the $300 the American Legion donated and the $10k I donated. I just think since it's for local kids, we should get the donations locally.

Damn, my Mom does quilting as a hobby...baby books, baby blankets, wall hangings, etc
She either gives them as gifts, or sells them to friends for them to give.

She has a batch of Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer books and wall hanging sets that are based on the classic tv cartoon, and so I just the other day purchased 10 of the dvds of that cartoon from which the characters on her quilts are taken to add to the gift packages. Wish I had seen this link before I had ordered them from Amazon. I'll keep your link in mind if I do any more at Amazon this season :)
