Why Submitters Get Blacklisted

My "Discussion on Blind Links" thread ended up being a great resource, and I'd like to start another one on Blacklisting

I don't think I need to write a book to start this one ;), but let's hear it from the LL owners here...why do YOU blacklist submitters. I'd like to hear the full scope of reasons.

I do NOT, I repeat,

I DO NOT WANT THIS TO TURN INTO A THREAD FULL OF PEOPLE BITCHING THAT THE BLACKLIST STANDARDS OF OTHERS ARE SOMEHOW UNFAIR OR UNREASONABLE

I don't expect anyone to change their standards (I won't), I'd just like to get a lively discussion going on why we blacklist. I think it could be a great resource for the submitters here.

I also don't expect anyone to share HOW they determine a submitter is committing some of the common blacklistable offenses like multisubmitting and autosubmitting. Don't want all the trade secrets to slip out ;)

I should probably start by saying that there are lots of things that I'll just decline for the first 3...or 5...or 10 times I see them. If I see the same mistakes coming in from the same submitters constantly and they can't even bother to come over here to my thread and raise their hands to ask why (there's a link in my decline email), they're either auto-submitting (which is a blacklistable offense) or they just can't be bothered to build quality sites or pay attention to their decline emails...which means I can't be bothered to review their sites. When I'm talking about these types of things below I'll just say "see above" in the explanation I give.

My Top Blacklist Reasons:

--Proxy IPs. Some ISPs give people proxy IPs by default, but when that's the case they're almost identical except for the last one or two octets (which are usually similar). A proxy IP totally different from your actual IP (I can see both) means you're doing it on purpose. I can even your see Anonymous Proxies and Highly Anonymous Proxies. I can't see through them, but I can see them standing there in front of you. If you're hiding where you're from, you're probably hiding more than that.

--Shameful overuse of templates (see above)

--Constant and shameless submissions full of blind links (see above)

--Same Recip Used For All Submissions. I have category recips, as well as most other LLs. For some reason some submitters who aren't even autosubmitting seem to think that they can get the right category recip for their first site and use it for every site submitted to every category. They are wrong. First few times is a decline, then I'm done.

--Multisubmitting. I think it's important to specifically define multisubmitting here. I accept more than one submit a day as long as the sites/cats vary from one to the next. This is why I get really pissed when I catch someone submitting with multiple emails. If you're using multiple identities, you're hiding something.

--Autosubmitting. I spend more time reviewing your site than you'd spend submitting it hunt-and-peck. Form filling assistants are fine, but make sure they're filling the forms right.

--Sites Redirecting After Submission. Do this and you're a cheater, plain and simple. If you have to pull sites, 404 them and DO NOT send your 404 traffic to a sponsor tour on your free site domains.

--Recips Removed After APPROVAL. This one REALLY pisses me off. If I can find out who your mother is I'll blacklist her too for raising you that way. If I decline your sites please feel free to remove my recip if you choose, but your time is better spent figuring out why you were declined and correcting the issue in the future.

--Sponsor Built Galleries As Gallery Pages (see above)

That's all from me for now, and it seems that's Chapter One :D

Anyone else? Bueller?...Bueller?

MrYum 2005-12-03 12:46 AM

Bueller Here Sir :D

Sounds like I run much like you do Max. I send out declines with a reason. I have a link on my submit page to GG&J...saying to come ask questions.

And yet, I get the SAME problems from the SAME submitters over and over and over again. I'll send the same decline mail 7 or 8 or MORE times. Eventually, I get tired of seeing the same problems and add em to the list |dizzy|

As you said, if they can't be bothered to read the mail...or come here and ask why they're not getting listed...I can't be bothered to continue reviewing their sites.

In order of frequency;
Page Counters
Continuing to submit sites I specifically state in my rules I don't list
Blind Links
Invisible or Nearly Invisible Recips
Bogus Whois
Templates
Sites downright abusive towards women
HUGE ADS and tiny navigation
English so poor, I have no idea what the hell they're saying...which leads to blind links
Spamming metas

INSTANT Blacklisting;
Trying to sneak 'bad' words into the metas...or comments tags

Hmmm...I know there are more, but it's late and that's all I can drag out of the brain at the moment.

Thanks for posting Max...another good thread for the community as a whole |thumb

I guess I follow your lead too Max.
People hiding something is usually a hit and a half for their ass.
I think alot of people use multiple emails for tracking purposes. I tried that in the beginning, thinking it would make life easier, then realized it was fraudulent.
I suppose people don't realize that we associate the names and addresses with the submitter and build a familiarity with them and their submissions via that name/addy combination.
It is so much easier to contact Joe Submitter and let him know about a problem on xyz.com or abc.com when you know for a fact that they all belong to Joe. I know I can't keep track of all my own 1000+ email addresses , much less remember and track the 7 gazillion each submitter has and tries to use.

The obvious multisubmitters are the ones that piss me off, especially when they try subbing hosted gals or sponsor gals astheir gallery pages. But when they multisub the same templates in the same niche with the different names and addresses every day, in the same damn order, that's a major no no.

I just delete those and move on, usually reviewing what's in queue every few hours or as time permits. However, honest mistakes and such get reject mails mailed. The rest just get deleted and I'm an asshole for not notifying them of their rejection, even though they do the same thing every day and have been mailed rejections at least 5 times before.

I will allow multiple addresses if there's a pre-arranged agreement that they'll use @domain.com per domain they sub, as long as the contact name is the same.

I'm fairly liberal in approving most anything, from tastefully done FPAs to whatever, as long as it's adult related and has something to offer the surfer and I'll list as many as you can submit as long as the templates are spread out( 50 amateur submits from one person per day are ok by me as long as they are unique and follow the general rules). But when people try to screw me even after my being more than easy, they find themselves in the shit house.

That's the main things I can pull out right now, but I'm sure there's alot more, depending on my mood.

Great thread by the way!

I really don't have the problem I once had thank goodness. I understand the standards for a good free site and anyone I caught cheating was banned. Simple, no questions asked, no appeal.

I don't have the time for hand holding and I've heard too many bullshit excuses. If you don't want to be banned don't cheat! There is no oops factor involved! |banghead|

Most of my submitters know I'm very lenient :)

For each submitter whom I blacklist, I mail their mother a hard copy of all their porn sites and a short note telling them that they should pray for their child's soul, because he/she is destined for an afterlife of hot pokers in his/her rectum. |hotjump|
Let's add these to the list:
Sites hosted at places known to harbor cheaters.

Free/Sponsor hosts - duh

Protected Whois - though there are a couple of GG&Jim members who I list because I like/trust them.

Obvioulsy fake whois - I will not list any sites on a domain owned by Donald Dick or someone living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500.

Deliberately mispells a word that my script would flag in order submit the site - One of my lists filters for the word "young", amongst a few other words. If your description contains that word, you'll be told that young is banned when you hit submit. That way you can modify your description and submit successfully. But is that what people do? Oh no, they'd rather change the spelling so the script won't flag it, as if I won't see it when I review.

I jot down a little note for every IP, domain, or user who I blacklist so I will know why I did so. There are things like "Idiot", "Rotten cocksucker", and "Probably rapes his dog". I have no idea why I blacklisted those people, but I obviously wasn't happy with them at the time.
