Hosting companies....with all the bells and whistles....the best value for our company buck. We anticipate switching hosts by Feb 1 and hope to have around 20 pay sites in 2006.

Bobby Banger 2006-01-12 06:44 PM

Here's what we currently use

http://www.micfo.com/webhosting.html

We have their MG special but upgraded to get 5 gb of space and 170 gb of bandwidth per month. We've spent about $400 for a 3 yr package that started in the summer of '05.

Will need a package that totals aproximately 30 domains. Around 20 paysites, a few tgp's, a few storefronts for toystores and vod's. Finally affiliate programs and corporate stuff should add up pretty quickly to about 30 domains total. Virtual is what we will prolly need for a while.

Will begin negotiations to opt out of the contract with them and beginning anew in Feb 1. We will pay for any service that is fast, doesnt go down, has all the buttons and whistles we need and a tech support staff that actually answers their phone. These guys dont and subsequently they have lost my business.

You should check out www.rackco.com (of course you can use my sig if you want :D). I have a server there and have known Dan for a while, you can also icq him and tell him Sy sent you. His icq is 1-6-2-1-5-4-5-5-7 or if you want I can have him contact you :)

Great hosting and great service :)

Bobby, ya nut - could you clairfy this one for me? Are you saying that you want to put 20 paysites on a virtual hosting account? I just want to see which one of us is |crazy|

Wow Bobby...that sounds like a whole buttload to stuff into a virtual account...especially to expect a high degree of reliability. For the kind of resources you're talking about...you really should consider going to a dedicated box.

The downside to virtual hosting is you're sharing that machines resources with every other virtual account hosted on it. From what you describe, I don't think there's any way you're going to be able to share resources with a lot of others folks on the same server.

To actually try to put this train back on the tracks, I wouldn't trust any virtual hosting with paysites. You can get a decent dedicated for $200-$300/month.

Dream Host with their unbeatable offer; plus they're always up and fast!
$7.95/month for 1000 GB bandwidth, unlimited domains, 1 FREE domain registration, 20 GB disk storage!

Beaver Bob 2006-01-13 05:33 AM

We use Cave Creek. Excellent service, might not be the cheapest, but we are very happy with them.

Useless 2006-01-13 10:40 AM

If you are considering a dedicated server, which really is necessary for your plans, my only suggestion would be Colo-cation. http://www.colo-cation.com/dedicated_hosting.htm Far too many hosts pretty much plug in the box, load the OS and walk away. Colo optimizes the living hell out of their servers to ensure maximum performance and security. If you aren't ready for a your own box quite yet, they have virtual accounts which will allow you to upgrade to dedicated without a moment of downtime when you grow. If you don't see a package that fits you, hit them up at 20164730 and see what he can do for you.

Hey gang,
Dreamhost looks a little too good to be true. Does anyone have any experience, good-bad-indifferent, with them?
Also, will they waive their set-up fee without committing to a one or two year contract?
A $49.95 set-up fee is a bit strong for a simple virtual account.
Thanks,
Dunkin

As dunkin asked - anybody use/used dreamhost.com ? Any opinions?
