Wilson Pleads Guilty
I just saw the Chris Wilson, the webmaster in Florida, plead guilty to 5 misdemeanor charges.
http://www.avnonline.com/index.php?P...tent_ID=254827 I don't like this. I know how tempting it is to take a plea, but this is just censorship. I understand it isnt my freedom on the line right now, but it is the freedom of every one of us that is slowly being chipped away when prosecutors throw a whole bunch of charges at someone knowing full well they will plead it out--that is common practice and I did it myself when I was a DA but I never used the power of my office to silence someone like they are doing to Wilson. Rob Black said at Internext that he would not take a plea offer. I admire that kind of courage! I also admire anybody that goes through the wringer and comes out in one piece--Wilson did put up a good fight but when the government wants a piece of you, they will get you. Fuckers. |
They don't say why he was arrested in the first place. |huh

In a nutshell--
Wilson ran a pay site where you could upload amateur pics, kind of like a Beaver Hunt online. He decided to give free memberships to soldiers that posted pics from their tours of duty--like in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bloody bodies and severed heads really pissed of the Dept of Defense, who wanted to shut Wilson down. The DoD could not, so they are now going after soldiers that sent in pics and the Republican prosecutor in the county where Wilson lived brought over 300 obscenity charges against him--but not for the bloody bodies--for the mainstream porn!! The porn Wilson had up was pretty tame by internet standards. If he could be convicted of obscenity based on that, we could ALL go to jail. The fact is that he took a plea for putting up images that really werent obscene, but the prosecution could have made his life impossible during the trial stage if he continued to defend himself. I think it was pretty obvious that he was targeted for the images of dead Iraqis and the brutal pictures of what the war REALLY is like--stuff that embarrasses the Bush administration. The good old boys in the Republican party realized they could go after Wilson for his nudie pics and shut him down that way, which it looks like they did. Again, I say-- Fuckers. |
Not much you can do with 290+ charges.

Leave it to our government to use some nudey pics to take someone down. I really wish Wilson could have kept up the fight rather than bowing out to their DDOS attack of charges. I want to say that I could have fought the good fight, but who knows what would happen if I was put at risk of losing my wife and children for any period. Sucky situation all the way around. We, as an industry, really need a big win in order to change the tide of this war. I agree. Fuckers. |
Well, if it was an upload site, then once the smoke has settled a bit he can take a look at this for an appeal basis.

If you plead guilty you give up the right to appeal.

I believe there is a little more to this story than some of the news outlets have been publishing (based on Chris's posts on another board) - and they will become a little more obvious after CNN interviews him for the second time in the very near future.

Facing untrue and unsubstantiated criminal charges is something I hope nobody here ever has to go through (if they haven't already). I was in a position many years ago where I was accused of things I didn't do, didn't actually break any laws as they were written, but a judge and prosector were going after my boss and decided that they were going to interpret a couple laws as THEY would have written them as opposed to how they were ACTUALLY written in order to screw both me and a co-worker.
I was in the right. I was 100% not guilty of what I was charged with. I took a plea to a bullshit misdemeanor. If I had lost at trial I would have absolutely had grounds for an appeal, but I didn't have the money to fight, nor was a willing to take a chance that I was going to sit in jail waiting for an appeal to go through. When you're at pre-trial motion hearings and preliminary hearings and the judge has already decided that you're going to get screwed, believe me it becomes 100% clear in a hurry and you've got to make some shitty decisions. Not to say that I really know anything about what was happening with this guy, but odds are because of the type of charges he saw the writing on the wall just like I did all those years ago and cut the best deal he could. |
Ladies & Gentlemen, welcome chadknowslaw - Greenguy & Jim's Unofficial Board Lawyer |shake|
Chad - I said it before, but it was very nice to meet you in Vegas & my wife likes you, which is a very good "stamp of approval" (just ask anyone that know's my wife - LOL) |
They can revoke your bail, they can keep adding on additional charges and they can simply run you out of money. There is no defense unless you are very wealthy.

I know Chad from another board and he's always right on the spot with good advice and info. Thanks as always Chad |thumb

Moby, the bail revokation was with cause (Chris played a game, moving out of Polk county and re-establishing the sort of things that had lead to his arrest to start with.
At the end of the day, his biggest crime is thumbing his nose at authorities at all levels and not knowing when to stop. Alex |

Ever since the Becka Lynn case, most people know better than to operate out of Polk County. Even Ifriends blocks chathosts from there.
