thumbnail maker for mp4 ?
 

I need a program (windows XP) or a server side script for a unix box, that can make me a thumbnail page/table for movies in the mp4 format.

I mean the gallery page making kind of tool that will look at the 1 or 15 picture/movie files you have and make thumbnails of each and make a html page using those thumbs.

I've looked at thumbsplus which is great for getting the thumbnail pages done, but they dont know from mp4.

You guys got a lead for me?

mplayer is capable of running on the server and can do screen grabs to jpgs.

I'm wondering where you are using the mp4 format? I think it is a great format but doesn't seem to be widely accepted.

'Bulents screen recorder' can grab ANYTHING from screen including whole movies and webcam shots... its a camgirls nightmare...lol.

Best of all its free. The free version stamps a logo on the bottom right but if you size the capture area right (just drag with a mouse) then you can position it away from the interesting areas and crop it off later. I did vid thumbnails with it from a sponsor whose supplied thumbs had nothing to do with the free movies on their site that they linked to!

Just wondering. Would love to use mp4 on the paysite that I manage but its members seem to be stuck on mpg-1.

well then offer the same thing as something new|thumb
take your movie clips you give them now, reformat for MP4 and then tell them you added an extra bonus - portable movies for their cellphones:D

try a few out, put them on their own page in the members area and check your logs for downloads of mp4's and views of that page. You'll get an idea of how well recieved/wanted they are soon enough.

and thanks to you guys for the frame grabber options. I have Nero 7 video maker that can do that for me now. But any program where I have to load each movie clip to make its thumb nail is not gonna work in the longrun. I need at the very least, such a program that can do this in batch mode. And of course my real hope is that I find a thumbnail gallery maker that can handle mp4 right from the get go.

I believe the video iPOD is using mp4 too...so now you could set up podcasts for the content you currently have.

I have some code here that runs on a linux box with PHP and that allows automatic thumbnail creation from any type of movie. It can create static or animated thumbnails (gif/flash).
