A couple questions re movie freesites and freesite structure
Hi all |waves| ! Newbie alert! I've been building some freesites lately and have run into a couple things I'm not sure about.. First, when making a movie freesite, should I be submitting to the category that corresponds to the movies, or the actual movies category on the link list? It looks like most link lists, with or without a movies category, list movie freesites on the category page that the movies belong in but if thats the case, whats the point of having a movies category ( and cooresponding recip )? Just to have one? Is there a right and wrong here? Am I going to be penalized for submitting to the cooresponding niche rather then the movies category ( which is what makes the most sense to me )?
Second, and this is the one that really gets me, is how do you structure your freesites in a way that youre not duplicating content or jumping directories from index to main. The way I do it now is simple, 12 recips on index.html, and 12 recips on index.htm, but I'd like to submit to about 40 other link lists but am not sure about how to do it. Can I have enter.html, enter.htm, warning.html, warning.htm, etc..?? I assume most link lists are going to want their recip on an index page of some sort reguardless of how big they are, and the only way I see to do this is to have a complete duplicate of your freesite or jump from the directory the recip/index pages are in to a single main/gallery pages. Can I keep just the content a directory below all my warning/main/gallery pages or is that still breaking rules?|confused| |huh Thanks for any input QuickDraw |
I'll give my opinion on the first question and let the true free site gurus get you on the second. (I don't do much submitting and am therefore not an authority on structure.) So here goes. I believe you are better off submitting to the niche than to the general movie category. This would place your site in the view of those who are seeking that particular content. In the movie category, you are going to get a lot of traffic that wants movies, but not specifically your movies. Most link lists allow you to choose which section you want to be listed in. But check the rules and see if they say anything about all movies having to be in the movie cat.

As far as the 1st part, I will list you in the category or the movie page, so the choice is yours. Ther movies page has more broadband surfers & the category pages have more targeted traffic.

This is a good place to get a idea of the structure. remember for everyone there is a differant way, but this should help you get an of one way to do it. I hear now people are nameing directories keywords and files keywords and just about everything keywords. I dont get to crazy with it I have not had the time to build lately. Hope this helps on the 2nd question..

Quickdraw, there are a ton of good threads on directory structure in the linklist and newbie section, while this one isn't the best, it's the most recent: http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...ad.php?t=28222
I suggest you do a search, but for the most part you shouldn't have to duplicate the content just directories for the landing/index pages. Good luck. |thumb |
Thanks for the replies so far.. sounds like I should be ok just putting the content a directory below the html. I don't mind duplicating the html, but duplicating 16mb of movies ( 8 x 2mb each ) would eat up way too much disk space. I like the reusability of the structure on the link juggernaut posted too, I think I'll do a hybrid type structure. Something like:
domain.com/ads/$SPONSOR/banners/ domain.com/ads/$SPONSOR/hpas/ domain.com/ads/$SPONSOR/oddsized/ domain.com/fs/ domain.com/fs/keyword-keyword/index.html [ biggest linklists ] domain.com/fs/keyword-keyword/index.htm [ biggest linklists 2 ] domain.com/fs/keyword-keyword/main;gallery1;gallery2 domain.com/fs/keyword-keyword/thumbs/ [ all html points to these ] domain.com/fs/keyword-keyword/fullsized/ [ all html points to these ] domain.com/fs/keyword-keyword/1/index.html [ smaller LL's ] domain.com/fs/keyword-keyword/1/main;gallery1;gallery2 domain.com/fs/keyword-keyword/2/index.html [ smaller LL's ] domain.com/fs/keyword-keyword/2/main;gallery1;gallery2 etc... Anyone see anything wrong with this? The only thing I don't like about it is I don't want Google flagging me for duplicate content. Hmm, maybe there's a meta tag for that.. |
The only thing I see wrong with what you are 'doing' QuickDraw is that you are doing "what everyone else is doing". Which always seems like a good idea at the time...
.. Why not just submit to 12 linklists? Thereby eliminating, any possible dup content "penalty", ... and eliminating, any problem with YOU having to duplicate content on your server, ... and eliminating the problem of creating multiple sub dirs. ... and allowing you to judge measure and asses you traffic and its value more easily Submitting to 345,564,776,347,335 linkslists does not make you money. Submitting to the 12 right ones CAN make you money! DD |
