ICRA Labels

OK so after reading two threads on this board I see some saying it's not a good idea, or unfeasible to label each page with the icra label, and I'm a little confused. Every page I have ever built, and will build in future has the icra label, and yes I mean every single adult page. As was said elsewhere there seems to be a quirk that you need only the necessary ingredients, you don't need to register every page. Once I went and generated the label for cfnmparty.co.uk which is:

Code:

That caters for every page on the domain I put that code in (in the head section for those that don't know). New domain I swap the domain/tld accordingly, and use it on all pages on that domain, and so on for each domain. I'm guessing we pretty much all have our standard meta tags that we automatically put in for each page we build, so it's already there as soon as you start, no need to register anything, or even change anything within that line.

It may not be a perfect solution, but it does help, and I can say I feel much more comfortable using that than I feel uncomfortable using hardcore on a landing page. This does work for filters, at least it does for the guys that email me from their place of work asking how come they can't view my site(s) at work, so I'm guessing it blocks minors from seeing my sites whose parents have taken the steps to block them.

It's a seperate issue from adhering to the law, or proposed laws in the other threads here, which is why I started a new thread, but shouldn't we all be applying this on our pages? I feel it is more of a good faith effort than having a warning page with no hardcore to be honest.

Yup, I do the same thing Jel :)

ICRA tags by no means is a silver bullet, for one because its a self-rating system, but if all webmasters used them, it would be a big step in the right direction.

I will admit though sometimes I'm too lazy to use the tag.

By the way, ICRA updated their tag. I have no clue whether the old tags are obsolete or not, but I do know the old tags I generated for my sites a year ago won't pass the ICRA validation test. This is what I use:

I started setting up GreenguyandJim yesterday. We have so many pages and our Head tags are not in our headers so I have to do every page by hand. The board will be easy but the rest of the site will be a pain in the ass.

I try to remember to add them on every new page, but sometimes in the rush when building new templates I forget. Every so often I go back and check for ones I've missed and fix the oversight.

I use them on all my pages.

To me, it's just part of trying to be responsible about my business.

jel, ICRA works if you own a few domains, and have pages that are all made in a way that you can easily do a search and replace to add the tags.

Would you like to take a few minutes of your time and register 1000+ domains for me? Would you like to provide me a simple system to manage and handle the 1000 different tags that I will have to maintain?

ICRA is an acceptable (but cumbersome) idea for a single domain. It is a freaking nightmare when things start to scale up.

I would like nothing more than a simple tag where I can make a single pass through my servers and say "replace the /body tag with a meta tag followed by the /body tag" and be done with about 80% of the work in a few minutes. It would not take long for each and every adult webmaster in our community to do the same thing. Every static page would be fixed in one go.

The only thing that would remain would be going back and handling pages that are generated on the fly with scripts and whatnot, and that honestly would not be anywhere near the job of handling all those ICRA tags.

Plus, honestly, why do I have to register with some third party? The best solutions are the simplest solutions, not complicated registries and coding.

ICRA is a good in theory, a time consuming management nightmare in reality.

I started putting them on my pages also

when you first go to the site it looks bothersome
but its very easy

you cannot regester one domain with them and then use the tags on other domains
I tried it and used the IRCA test tool and it didnt work

you have to regester and get the tag file for each domain

I think parents have a resonablity to use filters
we have a resonablity to use the tags on our site

remember people the goverment wants googles data to test filters
if we tag our sites it helps to ruin their case

I used to use the ICRA tags, but found them too cumbersome to implement across multiple domains.

So, I use either;
or

I've never really looked at some of the filtering software. Is the consensus that the filters don't key in on metas when configured as above?

The ICRA labels.rdf file for every domain registered with ICRA is identical except for this code:

YOURDOMAIN.com

There's no need to re-register for each domain. All you have to do is open labels.rdf, and replace YOURDOMAIN.com with whatever domain you're installing labels.rdf on.

Then upload labels.rdf on domain root and use this code for all your domains:

that's a handy little tip, thanks! I just spent some time putting the new ones on my other sites, that will save me some time in the future |thumb

Again I am lost - 1 tag, all pages (I think - PLEASE someone tell me if I am wrong....) no need to 'register' 10k+ pages, no need to register 1k+ domains - all my domains are unaccessible by guys that are behind their work (employment) screens, get the code, change the doamin part where needed, as far as I know that's it - filtering software cans your domain from being shown. That's from guys that email me asking why they can't see my stuff, so I assume it can 'only' be down to that tag? As I say I may be wrong...
