My first step

Hi guys, |waves|

Im new to the adult webmaster scene, but have made many websites in the past using ASP, php, pearl, xhtml, xml etc. These where all made for a boring e-commerce company. I am also a dab hand using paint shop pro etc. Do these skills give me any advantage at all in starting in this business?

Ive read over the newbie section and am still not sure if this is worth pursueing or not. Im looking to make a little money around $200 a month and am not sure which type of site could provide that.(linked list/free gallery etc)

Which hosting option should i start with, should i make a site with a free hosting provider and promote their sponsors. Would this be a good starting point?

On a totally different topic do u guys think there would be any interest in freelance template design or web page design for the adult market?

Basically im just trying to make a litlle money out of skills that I have but no longer use as im at university. I have alot of free time so am interested in trying to start my own small business.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

welcome to GG&J|waves|

Yes your web development experience will come in handy. The best way to start is to build freesites and submit them to link lists.

the only other thing i'll say is defintely do not go with free hosting. fork out a few bucks a month to start on a nice shared plan. you'll be glad you did |thumb

best of luck to you

Welcome to GG&J Irish |waves|

Good advice from Beaver about steering clear of free hosts if you want to do free site submissions. Almost no respectable link sites will list free hosting anymore...way too many problems in the past.

As to your question regarding design work...if you've got some skills, absolutely yes. Cruise through some of the link lists and look at how sites are laid out...get some ideas. Please note, and I have to say this due to previous experience...never directly copy someone's work...it's the quickest way to ensure a short stay in the adult biz. No offense intended Irish, but it's happened many times in the past so has to be pointed out to someone new :)

So yea...if you've got good skills and can adapt to the adult angle...you could make some bucks just doing galleries and/or free site templates.

Welcome also :)

I agree about the hosting...its just a few dollars to do hosting. I know some LL's and Directories will not list sites on Free Hosting providers due (we are one of them) which is outlines the reasons on our Submission Guidelines page.

You've certainly have a good list of design skills which will come in handy for your sites. You mentioned $200 a month income from this potential project of yours; that is possible and even more. One thing that could happen is that once things get going, you fall into the world of (hey, this is cool, I wanna do more !!) addiction..lol. Well, perhaps not an addiction, but once you get things going, you start to plan more until the point you realize that its turning into a full-time goal. REally depends on how far and how much you "really" want to do with it.

Start with free gallery sites, perhaps get into a toplist script (I'd suggest JMBSoft.com autorank script) to try that out. If you are really into it and feel you want to go bigger with something, make the attempt to try a Link List or Link Directory. However, for these ones, you can definitely do well with it if you manage it as a business, but they do demand a lot of work on a regular basis.

There are many other options out there for you, its a big industry.
