"Kama Sutra" worm

I just watched one of CNN's anchorwomen talk about the Kama Sutra worm, and how it will activate on Friday and start destroying files.

Her advice to everyone was to "not look at porn on the Internet."

Any thoughts on whether this worm, and how it's spread, will actually have any effect on how many people are looking at porn?

Or any thoughts on whether this worm might have actually had that as (one of) its purpose(s)?

One story on the worm is here:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/interne...orm/index.html

Another here:

WTF does that have to do with a worm that is transmitted via an attachment in an e-mail? Shouldn't the ? be who's going to go slap a little sense into the woman so she realizes e-mail and "not look at porn on the Internet" are not the same fucking thing?

Yeah and they all live near me, I'm always fixing some dumbass or another's pc for them because they just have to accept every .exe and .scr attachment they can get. Yes, the cat got hit by a bus... great, now lets re-install windows. Sometimes I think people should have to pass a test and get a licence before being allowed on the internet.

It should pop out tomorrow i heard. What it does i think is erase folders. Bang, deleted, nothing's left

Even worse, it overwrites files, which means they're unrecoverable.

Any documents created by Microsoft Office as well as .rar and .zip archives should be backed up and stored on separate, removable storage, such as a CD or DVD. Files and documents of this type will be corrupted beyond repair on infected machines.

Yea...after I finished scrubbing that system last week...had a nice long talk with the owner about email attachments. Suggested the 'www' email principle...gotta know 'who' sent it...'what' they're sending...and 'when' they're sending it. And even then, NEVER open exe, scr or pif files.

From what I've read, if your virus protection is up to date...it 'should' prevent infection from this particularly nasty worm.

Amazing the number of emails I'm getting from people at Geocities. That must be the home of the script kiddies trying to spread this fucking worm. They are increasing hourly the lil bastages |angry|

Sorry Cleo, I did not realise you had an Amiga, I thought you had a Mac, but that cannot be because there are Mac viruses too. :)

If you don't want the worms in your server, can I have them to go fishing? :)

I use Mac X and don't have Classic installed. While there were a handful of Mac Classic viruses and one worm over the years there has yet to be a Mac X virus.
