What LL script do you use / recommend?

Hi all,

Been using gossamar threads since the get go, and after getting hacked yesterday, bastards, I'm seriously considering saying goodbye to links 2.0 and upgrading to a different script. Fortunately, we caught it within a few hours of the hack, and got everything back to normal, changed every password I could, but it still looks like they exploited through the script. :( Now I feel like my LL's have a big hole in them asking for bad guys to come in.

I tried searching the board, and ended up with a bunch of posts, can't figure out how to narrow it down more, lol.

I'd like a script I can import my db file from gossamar threads, that is a must.
Custom category page templates
banning features
intergration of sponsor links
Intergration of category trades would also be nice, but not necessary.
Be nice to have an easy way to import FHS
Link checking for 404, redirects, recip link, etc

I know there are other features I want too, I just can't think yet, not enough coffee.

I am looking at DragonList, but I know there are more out there. Would also be nice if I was given a discount for the 2nd (and 3rd) instances of the script, since I currently have 3 link lists.

What all are you guys using? are you happy with it? Makes my brain hurt to think of going through all this.

Hi Virginia,

I currently am using Dragonlist on my main linklist and so far, so good. I'll be upgrading my 2nd linklist to this script too, once I've crossed everying else off my 'to do' list.

I'm pretty sure that there is a huge discount for more than one license. The only thing I'm not sure of is the importing of your existing db but everything else you've got listed there is pretty easy to do. It was a toss up between dragonlist and Links SQL, but DL seemed easier to install and customize for me.

There is also Link Admin and XPower Links which you could look at.

Good luck anyway, I know it's a real pain changing scripts |dizzy|

That is correct. The first license for DragonList is $325; additional licenses are $75.

I like the features so far of DragonList. I sent Mishi a row from my db, and the specs from links 2.0 so she can see about importing the file. Worst comes to worst, I can remove the extra columns that I added with my mods, lol. And you are right, they have a great discount on each additional LL.

I looked at XPower Links, and they said it is "going under new management" and are taking no new orders, that concerns me with support in the future, if the management team is not the same that wrote the original software.

I've thought about Links SQL also, and LinkAdmin. So far, DragonLinks is winning though. Nice to hear from someone using it. |thumb I've looked at a few sites that use it, and nice to see it is pretty customizable.

Hi,
I've just read this thread and haven't got any clue that links 2.0 is vulnerable.
I have installed and modified this script on many sites, including mainstream, and they are doing well so far.

What did the hackers do? Did they modify the templates?
I've heard about a worm that can exploit link 2.0 installations through some other vulnerable service like formmail.

I also use Dragonlist, and must say the support is topnotch! ;)

Just a happy customer.

Hey Virginia,

So the issue is resolved? Have you seen this thread?

Nothing worse than getting hacked, as well, nothing worse to have to change scripts when you've been up and running for a long time.

However, have you not given more consideration to upgrading to the Gossamer Links version from your links 2.0? As for being hacked, if you know how it was done or have an idea, perhaps take this issue to the Gossamer people and see if there is a vulnerability. Take note too, that it really doesn't matter what link script you are using, if a site is going to be hacked, it'll be hacked...even a web host where your site is can be as well.

I would at least follow-up with gossamer on this problem first before y ou go through the hassles of changing over to a totally different script. IF you do though, it appears the Dragonlist is mentioned here often but I would give serious consideration to xpowerlinks as well.

Good luck though...hope all works out.

Since I look at my LL domains the most, I thought the hack was just limited to those domains. Unfortunately, it unfolded today when I got a message from a person who purchased some templates that I sell on a non-adult site who couldn't download his purchase, and I went to check out what as wrong and I got hit with trojans and viri, I realized my problem was MUCH bigger.

Phatservers, God BLESS THEM! ran a check for all files written or modified on the date of the hack, and this is after already deleing, oh 1,000 files off my server, we found about that many more.

They apparently uploaded a program in tar file, untarred it, then got to work dropping 3 or 4 files in almost every subfolder in about 50% of the domains on my box. They also defaced some pages, saying this was hacked by a balenese crew (something like that) and on the pages they defaced, they had auto downloaders for the trojans and viruses.

As far as the link list, they altered the link.html file so that they added a link to a w@rez board on EVERY site I was linking to on both redcherry and porntastic, so like 10k links on each, altered my header and footer files too and added a few more nasty links just for the fucking hell of it.

Fortunately, we found this within hours of the hack, and got those right off. We just didn't realize how much more extensive they were in trashing the server until today.

I should have dropped a note today when I realized there was the possibility of peeps hitting a page with trojans on it, but frankly, I was so damn busy trying to check every folder and delete files, I didn't think about it.

I actually have been wanting to switch from links 2.0 for awhile now, because it starts choking when you get to 10k links, I just kept putting it off.

After what I found today, I don't think that is how they got into my box, but regardless, they sure made themselves at home with the script after they got in. |angry|

I really want to do this to the

hackers |bigfuckin
