Hit And Run

A guy called Mohammed Hussain was driving a car at speed through the streets of Burnley (near Manchester) last September.

He had no licence, no insurance and the car was in fact stolen. He hit a 3 year old girl and killed her, then failed to stop at the scene.

Guess how long he was sentenced to jail for?

Twelve fucking weeks?

Full story here.

The British Justice System is total pants. |crazy|

Surfn 2006-02-22 12:06 PM

No way!! That totally sucks the big one!!!

cd34 2006-02-22 12:08 PM

If it was in the USA, guess who the family would sue.

urb 2006-02-22 12:23 PM

Yep.

And here's another one.... David Irving who happened to mention in a speech he made, that he did not believe there were holocaust gas chambers in World War II. Guess how long he just got sentenced into an Austrian jail for? Three years.

So basically, in Europe, if you deny the Holocaust in a speech you get 3 years in prison... but you only get 3 months for killing a child in a stolen car?

And they say I'm bloody crazy?

bluemoney 2006-02-22 12:53 PM

Maybe there’s a bright side to this. In just 12 weeks this guy will get the shit stomped out of him by an angry mob. We can only hope.

"The judge could have imposed a maximum sentence of six months. "

um.....

KG Gary 2006-02-22 02:32 PM

It's disgusting.
I wonder how many of these ridiculous sentences never even make the news.
Pathetic.

Ramster 2006-02-22 03:23 PM

Totally disgusting!!!!!!!

MrYum 2006-02-22 04:26 PM

WTF! That's just insane!

I just read that brief article and it doesn't even give a reason as to WHY the sentence was so brief.

Un fucking believable |angry|

MeatPounder 2006-02-22 04:38 PM

It seems from the article that the police actually only charged him with lessor crimes, and thus the low penalties

Speaking of hit and runs, we had a horrific one in oz last week.. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=87923
A guy plowed into a group of teenagers and killed 6 of them, then I think he got out of the car and ran off leaving his 2 kids sitting in the car. It will be interesting to see what he gets for a sentence but I am sure it will be a lot more than 12 weeks.

ecchi 2006-02-22 06:09 PM

Yeah, it was on the front page of all the papers this morning. I may have missed the B.O.E. robbery, but it was impossible to miss the outrage at this case.

If it was in the US the guy wouldn't spend a day in jail but he would get sued for money that he'd never pay.

SirMoby 2006-02-22 10:58 PM

In the USA on Texas ranch you can drink beer, shoot someone and never have to even speak to the police.

If it's more than 5 years I'll be seriously surprised... not because I think that's fair, it's because the sentences handed out to vehicular manslaughterers in this country are a fucking disgrace...

Like that bird down here who got 3 years wholly suspended for killing a bloke riding his bike whilst she sent a text message on her phone...

Accidentally kill someone with an axe and you go to jail. Do it with a car and you're fucking golden in the eyes of the law. It makes me sick!

Make no mistake, I'm not a law and order hardliner, in fact I'm the exact opposite. But I don't think you can draw a line between the tool used. Murder is murder, and manslaughter is manslaughter, pure and fucking simple.

Yesterday, here in Belgium, a guy got sentenced 27 months to jail and he couldn't drive for at least 12 years.
He also did a hit and run where a kid got killed, he had a license, insurance and was driving his own car but was drunk...

Anyway, it's all sad :(

StaceyJo 2006-02-24 04:20 AM

WTF? that is unbelievable... thats unfair, injustice... after killing a child then just like that? oh my, he should suffer the crime, where infact it is a heinous crime... sometimes I dont understand people...
