My aff code in the SEs

From a sponsor's referrer stats I see that I've been getting some hits from msn.no. Naturally I go there and type in the paysite name and sure enough, the 3rd result is a link directly to the paysite but with my aff code. How the hell did that happen? Not that I mind, but if it's something I did I'd like to be able to replicate it on a SE that serves more than 4 mill. people.

It's the Blind Squirrel principal at work. ;)

Enjoy it while it lasts, MSN seems to rotate the top ranked sites.

Just blind luck then. Oh well... If it only had been with google.com, apparently not too many Norwegians are into bondage. :)

Yes MSN like NATS codes.

I had the number 6 for 'sex toys' about a year ago...ran for almost a month...SWEET! Made almost a grand on that listing for ONE month...mmm...TASTY!

It's one of those..."I have no idea how or why"...but damn I'd sure love to see it again soon :D

hahah yep, I have had it happen to me before too on msn, I wasnt a high listing but seeing msn in my refferer stats was like wow, haha. I was getting like 50-70 hits to it per 2 week pay period for a few months, I think it made me a sign up or 2.

Think twice, then you'll know how it works! It's pretty obvious in my opinion.

Been getting a bunch of those listings for quite awhile now. Luck of the draw(????) that my sponsor link ended up on top out of about 4000 others.

I don't believe its luck. Google uses an algo to rank pages, and I'd be shocked if that process involves a rand() function.

Agreed, but good luck trying to figure out why. I'd guess it has something to do with the how the link was presented on the site where it was spidered.

I think this happends on msn only.

Seems to be the whole group of OT.

Looking at the other links, I really don't see a reason for it. I only have 2 links on a FPA with all the nice alt/title stuff.

also happens on yahoo. Used to be on #1 for a couple of months with my electrabucks refcode :)

bunky2u 2006-03-27 03:06 AM

Happened to me with my naughtyamerica code in Google. Got more sign ups from that than I ever did working the TGPs...

Sure is nice when it happens

Radical Seo Guy 2006-03-29 03:02 PM

Some of the link weight from the root of the domain transfers across to your ref code, point enough links from unique domains with your ref code in the links and it will rank high!

Considering the canonical pages suppression that is supposed to be part of the bigdaddy rollout, we might see less of this effect. But I haven't been looking to find out for sure.

TheMaster 2006-04-04 09:25 PM

I've got some links to PlayboyCash websites in the top 5 in MSN

it's fun, wish I could replicate it for more sites |huh
