Domino's Pizza founder looks to ban abortions, porn & contraceptives

If Domino's Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan has his way, a new town being built in a quiet corner of southwest Florida will be governed by strict Catholic principles, particularly when it comes to sex.

The pizza magnate, raised by nuns in orphanages, is bankrolling the town called Ave Maria with millions of dollars, calling its construction ``God's will.'' Stores won't sell pornographic magazines, pharmacies won't carry condoms or birth control pills, and cable television will carry no X-rated channels, he said in a speech last year to the first annual Boston Catholic Men's Conference…

Build an adult bookstore/theatre just outside the city limits and make a fortune.

Torn Rose 2006-02-28 10:33 PM

Buttplug the nazi pope!

MadMax 2006-03-01 12:50 AM

His ass lives and runs dominos about an hour from where I live. He's building a cross that's something like 150 feet high, which will make it the tallest structure for miles. I hate him and his fucking pizza.

pornrex 2006-03-01 02:53 AM

You guys make me laugh.
You want the FSC to allow us to express ourselves freely without persecution, yet if some millionaire lunatic can't do the same thing, your ready to nuke him. Does that sound right to you? It doesn't sound right to me. Its freaks like THIS that the FSC should be looking at in order to secure a voice for us because after all lets face it porn is not your everyday run of the mill business. If we cannot tolerate some 'hardcore' religious freak with cash, why should the rest of society tolerate us?

glowlite 2006-03-01 03:28 AM

I don't like his pizza either MadMax. But he is still deserving of life, liberty, and the pusuit of happiness.

I think the adult bookstore/theatre is a classic idea :D
Maybe a topless carwash too.

Bill 2006-03-01 04:14 AM

I think it's marvelous that he's going to do that, it's the american way, I wish him all the best.

But I sure as hell am never going to spend money on dominos pizza. Not that I ever do now anyway, but if it ever comes up, I'll pick the other pizza.

What was I reading the other day - something about red states and blue states - how the blue state taxes are paying for red state expenses...

http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_b...ates_feed.html

Which I found by following links from this page:

http://www.fuckthesouth.com/

"Which state do you think has the lowest divorce rate you marriage-hyping dickwads? Well? Can you guess? It’s fucking Massachusetts, the fucking center of the gay marriage universe. Yes, that’s right, the state you love to tie around the neck of anyone to the left of Strom Thurmond has the lowest divorce rate in the fucking nation. Think that’s just some aberration? How about this: 9 of the 10 lowest divorce rates are fucking blue states, asshole, and most are in the Northeast, where our values suck so bad. And where are the highest divorce rates? Care to fucking guess? 10 of the top 10 are fucking red-ass we're-so-fucking-moral states. And while Nevada is the worst, the Bible Belt is doing its fucking part."

Jesus H Bill, will you quit pussy footing and come out and say whatever the hell it is your trying to say already? The suspense is just killing me. :)

Toni KatVixen 2006-03-01 06:47 AM

Actually we quit buying his pizza in the early 90s. I had read in one of my feminist magazines that he was a supporter to the extreme pro-life groups that advocated the killing of abortion doctors. We haven't eaten it since.

AMEN!! The last time a dominos crossed my door i think was in 1996 or 97. no WhoHa 2 -4- Tuesday for us. He doesn't buy Porn - we don't buy pizza ..i think that's a fair exchange.

On the Nevada high divorce rate, it takes about 24 hours here to get one. You have to be a resident for 6 weeks which means you have to be able to show a bill or a document that says you've been in NV that long. Opening an account at a mailbox store and using their address counts. Uncontested is about 99.00 including filing papers. it's like getting married.. 30 minutes if it's a reg. day at the courthouse.. 45-60 minutes if it's like Valentines or some other holiday.

Luckily for me, i live in the 'blue' part of NV. The rest of the state resembles the bible belt.

terry 2006-03-01 07:36 AM

I used to order dominoes many many years ago... but there are so many better places around here that I actually dont know anyone that orders from that place.

Exactly! Actually you could put a small strip mall with an adult bookstore/theatre, a mega liquor store, a pawn shop, a gun shop, and achor it with a stripcub.

The lord giveth, not just taketh away.

Greenguy 2006-03-01 07:54 AM

I'm a Pizza Hut kinda guy, but only because I have a crush on Miss Piggy :D

No, I don't "want" or need the FSC to "allow" me to do anything; I have the First Amendment for this.

No, the FSC is for those in Porn, the ACLU is for "freaks like this"

Where in this thread has anyone said this must be stopped?

basschick 2006-03-01 09:22 AM

dominos and mrs fields have been supporting anti choice since 1990 and before. i don't say they should be stopped, but i sure haven't spent my money there since then.

and to be fair, i also don't like dominos pizza ;)

Wow. Did you get this from something that you read here or was it the voices in your head? :)

The Amish and the Minonites live as they wish and they don't try to impose their will on others and I'm all for that. If this guy wants to make his own community then more power to him.

I don't think anyone here is opposed to people living their lives as they choose. It's those people that want others to live just like them that have always been a problem for the world.

RawAlex 2006-03-01 09:47 AM

Outrage because people have different views?

I think it is wonderful if they can form such a community and make it work out. Perhaps they will find the personal paradise they apparently cannot find in the rest of the world. More power to them.

That there chosen lifestyle would make out business illegal is just fine with me... I don't think they would be buying (except at that little sex store just outside of the village), so they are no loss to me.

Alex

MrYum 2006-03-01 10:23 AM

Agreed...more power to the nutball if that's how he wants to spend his money |thumb

I've never liked their pizza, but also had no idea he was one of 'those' kinda people. Also, didn't know MrsFields swung that way...no more of those cookies for me!

Now, PLEASE don't tell me Otis Spunkmeyer is a religinazi too. I got hooked on those cookies as a blood donor :D

serenity 2006-03-01 10:46 AM

It figures! Florida is home to all us nutbags...jeez..|crazy|

I don't think it matters what Otis does. His cookies are adictive and once you're hooked that's it.

odysseus 2006-03-01 11:19 AM

Well, one more assbag who won't be recieving patonage at his business from me. I've long held that the best way to bring about change in this capitalist society is to vote with your dollar. If you are really wanting a list of other assbags you can stop giving your money to for various reasons, check out http://www.buyblue.org .

As has been said, I'm all for this guy's right to build this crap. But, I'm even more for bleeding his resources to do so dry if possible.

The only thing that I think I'd really be pissed about is the freaking jeebus monolith that MadMax mentioned. I know a lot of communities have restrictions on landscaping one can do on one's own property, such as not having trees so high that they obstruct the view of another property, bla bla bla. It's a damn shame that so many people who aren't jeebusphiles have to be subjected to that view. What whould this guy do if some rich arab bought the adjacent land and build a 200 foot mosque? Hell, I'd bankroll that if I could just for kicks.

bluemoney 2006-03-01 02:50 PM

While I agree Domino's Pizza sucks! There is no need for a boycott. Monaghan sold his controlling stake in Domino's Pizza in 1998 to Bain Capital, an investment firm based in Boston, for an estimated $1 billion.
Now he’s just a member of the Wealthy & Fanatical Club.

odysseus 2006-03-01 03:00 PM

There ya go, Bluemoney. Spoil my fun. I love a good boycott. lol. Either way, the best pies are always at local joints anyway. I can't think of a national chain that I really like all that much. Mmmm. Pizza.

Cleo 2006-03-01 03:04 PM

Well their pizza still sucks. It is one of the worst pizzas that you can get where I live. It's like a piece of cardboard with tomato sauce on it. The box that it comes in would probably taste better.

I agree. I'm just jaded because he's a "hometown boy" around here and I've been hearing about his antics my whole life. If he could get away with giving a 10% discount to holy rollers he would.

This latest one doesn't even begin to surprise me. The thing is, I'll bet if someone from the other side of the spectrum wanted to build their own town for freaks and deviants there would be holy hell to pay. Pun intended.
