XP won't load - keeps rebooting

Well finally some good timing on my part.
Got another comp last week as you know.
Using the older one today, XP tried to auto update. Now nothing happens, it simply keeps rebooting and rebooting.

Since it's not the end to the world anymore, this will wait until tomorrow.
Just wanted to bitch about how MS can fuck things up.
(and to see Cleo chime in :D)

I wonder how many thousands of others this update effected today?

btw - here's the fix I'll be using

Time for a movie or something tonight I think |banghead| |loony| |crazy|

I did an update a couple days ago with no problems :D

Umm, F8 on bootup, safe mode, minimum setup, and see what happens.

Was this the microsoft genuine check?

I love my Mac long time

I don't know exactly what happened.
Can't boot into safe mode even
As per the update, the window popped up saying windows updates are ready, click ok, then went to the store. I came back and the comp was on the boot screen.
No biggy, something to work on over morning coffee.
All the real data is on a seperate partitioned h/d. So even if I have to completely reformat C I won't lose anything important.

Then you can't even get in to restore back to a good date. That really sucks :(

Wasn't there some kind of trojan/virus that is responsible for this?
Have you tried booting up in safemode? (F5 or F10 during start)

While back I had something, more a virus, called NT Authority, that was doing the same thing, just kept rebooting my pc. Googled it and found a fix from MS. Might not be it, just a thought..:)

Won't even boot in safe mode - now I just have to find those damn discs.. lol

juliofranco 2006-03-15 09:40 AM

yikes, now you need the install disk and repair the system files.

--------------------
go to safe mode and use system restore.

also, always make a restore point before doing any drastic changes to your PC.

Mark, I'd suggest the consumption of generous amounts of alcohol, some voodoo performed by a naked hottie, and a rapid barrage of strikes to the pc's case with a baseball bat. I'm all about pc repair. |thumb
