What's the very FIRST movie?

The very first movie you remember going to the theatre to see?
If you can't remember it, which is the earliest one you remember?

I believe mine was a Disney movie... "The Snowball Express". Anyone remember that?

"Star Wars" or "Close Enocounters of the Thrid kind", which ever came out first.

God am I going to date myself!!! It was Oliver Twist when I was 5 lol

docholly 2006-03-15 08:56 AM

"Love Story" Ryan ONeal & Ali McGraw.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - 1937 version, it showed in our town around 1975(ish). Otherwise it was Star Wars in '77

Doc- every jewellery box I've ever owned has played the theme from Love Story (yes I'm a closet sap)

I think it was Ian Fleming's James Bond vs "Dr. No"

That was in 1963. I was eight and my father took me to see it.

I may have seen other kiddie movies before that one (Santa Claus Conquers the Martians?), but I can't remember anything about them. Maybe 'cause Ursula Andress wasn't in any of those other movies.

My parents (the preachers) never let us to go "the movies" tho we could watch them on TV (which we didnt' get until i was 12). My g/f & her mom took me to love story as a birthday present.. 6 months later i moved out from my parent's house and to NYC by myself.

I'd say "Love Story" was a turning point for me. :D

The Jungle Book... I was 5.

juggernaut 2006-03-15 03:44 PM

Jaws. I was 5. Ever since then I hated being in the ocean. I remember seeing that movie, going to swim in the pool and all my friends got out. I freaked out thinking there was a shark in the dam pool lol.

I can't remember the first movie, but I grew up the only male in a house full of women (and the youngest to boot) so I'm sure it was a Disney movie or a musical... or both.

The first one I got to go to by myself... (with friends), was Five Fingers of Death or, Enter the Dragon. Whichever one hit the US first.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I was young and it scared the SHIT out of me. |shocking|

I think the first I remember was Ben Hur although I do remember getting dragged to Sleeping Beauty the same year (around 1959?)

Kinky 2006-03-18 12:59 AM

the first one I remember was Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back |raygun| |lightsabe

My Mother and Father took me to the drive in to see The Godfather when it first came out :) All I remember seeing in the movie back then was the wedding scene when they were looking for Sonny and he was screwing one of the bridesmaids against an upstairs door :) Not quite a move to take an 11 year old to :)

cosmiccat 2006-03-18 08:31 AM

Had to be a John Wayne flick cuz my old man was a big fan. Don't remember which movie though.

Erick G 2006-03-18 08:44 AM

I went to see Jaws when it came out in theatres too. I paid 15 cents to take the bus downtown, and 75 cents to get in and see the matinee show. (PG wasn't enforced for matinees)

Jim 2006-03-22 03:22 PM

Theaters were fun back in the day. I remember taking a bus with a friend and going to the mall. We bought a couple of pizzas and brought them in to watch the movie. These days, you have to sneak candy in if you don't want to buy it there.

I think it was Patton with George C Scott.“ . . . Americans don’t die for their country; they make some other son of a bitch die for theirs”
