NY State people

If anyone is familiar with Albany, can you please recommend a good place to stay? Ideally it would be close to the 'Palace'. We have tickets to catch a show there in a couple of weeks, and I've never been there.

thanks in advance!

I heard that most people that live in NY state are perverts. |couch| Is that true?

juggernaut 2006-03-22 10:14 PM

I get this feeling you are going to get at least 4 replies lol.

I think I'm the one who lives closest. I am about 40-45 minutes north of the capital city, depending on windage. I lived there for about one month, years ago, but I was drunk at the time. I don't really know anything about Albany other than white people shouldn't drive through the Arbor Hill section with their doors unlocked. :D

Greenguy 2006-03-23 07:23 AM

I can only recommend crappy hotels that are 5 hours away :(

docholly 2006-03-23 07:34 AM

*yelling from Vegas*...I used to stay at the Hampton Inn downtown when i had to schlep to Albany. it was close to the capital and about 3 or 4 blocks i think from the Palace.

Jim 2006-03-23 07:45 AM

I live about an hour away and there are plenty of nice places around here :) No, they really are the crappiest of crap. There has got to be someone that lives in Albany.

emmanuelle 2006-03-23 07:55 AM

lol- you guys are a lot of help |crazy|

Jim 2006-03-23 08:01 AM

There really is no reason for us that live near Albany to go to Albany :) Unless, it's to catch a plane.

No shit huh. LOL

If noone is there you'll have to go with a known hotel chain. I stayed at a Hampton Inn in Buffalo and that's a decent hotel.

Not that it's any help at all, I'm sure, but I heard Ron White do a bit about having to fly out of the "Albany Airport, Hair Care and Tire Center."

I was driving upstate, got lost, ended up in Albany (I think that's the only reason people visit there)...I stayed in the Crown Plaza if memory serves me right, but I was so tired from driving that I barely remember the place.

emmanuelle 2006-03-23 10:09 AM

You guys are really making me look forward to this trip -lol. I'm still annoyed at having to cross the border to see a Canadian act.

Jim 2006-03-23 02:05 PM

This one is really nice...I remember now from years ago.

Quick- Somebody call Victoria!

Gotta love the crooners

Linkster 2006-03-24 08:14 PM

Yep - the airport there was one of the few places I remember where you still had to walk to the plane :)

When I lived just north of there I ran down there about once a month, but refused to stay there as it was kinda run down (this was in the early 1980s so Im sure things have changed.)

Right near the place is the Hampton Inn - here's a good review of the place: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR..._New_York.html

Note - there are a few popups on that site but nothing nasty :)

Of course if you get there 2 days early you can go see R Kellys show too LOL

Thank god. I was going to take a job up there about 4 years ago. The pay was really good and I figured, hey it's Albany thats probally the only place that has stuff to do up there. But then I turned it down as I kept thinking every place I have been, I like for about 1 week then move back to where I am. Shit I have been thinking of moving from here being the cost of a house just keeps getting higher (I want a yard)but I know if I leave this state then I'm just going to want to come back and won't be able to. Reading has made up my mind. I am never leaving Jersey lol.

She already read it here. :) And, there are no tickets available :) She hasn't said to get it from the scalper yet but she might.

I am a native NYer and I went to university in Albany, the most godawful boring city in the world, but haven't been back to NY in 3 years, and I blocked out most of the pain. I will ask some family for you...

Oh and well, this NYer is a pervert. The ones I fucked weren't perverted enough for my tastes :D

Some recommendations:

Taken from the email to avoid confusion:
"There is one on State street off Lark called the morgan state house http://www.statehouse.com/default.htm . it's a tiny B&B in a brownstone (393 State street #1-888-427-6063) they'd be close enough to walk I suppose but it would be a 20-25 minute WALK from washington and lark all the way to washington and north pearl, then all the way down North Pearl Street to the palace theatre. But they could always catch the #12 bus at lark and washington and it will take them to north pearl and washington and they can walk down north pearl when they get off. and that would only take about 10 mins. I hear it's a really nice hotel and it's of course where everyone wants to be when they're in albany (lark area)."

And probably not so helpful:

"There was a hotel right by there (short short walking distance) by washington and north pearl, but I forget what it's called. it's a big shiny building across the street from kinkos and stagecoach. that would be the best bet if it was still around since that is reeeeally close, but I think it closed down cause I can't find it online. I know the hotel I told u about was expensive, but they do give 10% discounts to people who show them their arts and entertainment tickets eg. palace theatre tickets. so that's a plus. The cheapest rooms are $135 a night but they are luxury rooms so it's worth it. "

My friend lived in Albany for many years. She is a bit wordy, but helpful :D Hope that gives you some more options. Check out lark street and Washington Park which is right off it, it is a really pretty part of town and a beautiful park.
