Back from the Doctor
Well, I am finally back from the Doctor with a prescription of Imitrex. I am supposed to use it for a week and let the Doctor know if the headaches stop. If not, it's off for real tests. Nothing like a Doctor that throws meds at a problem based on what I tell him.

Thanks Surfn
I have always thought my headaches were migraines but this is the first time a Doctor told me I am probably right. At least I hope they are. The tests don't sound like a lot of fun. |
My sister in law used to suffer from migraines...those fuckers pretty much incapacitated her completely when they hit :(
Hope they get ya figured out and on the mend soon Jim |thumb |
Hope you feel better soon Jim! My husband used to suffer from bad migraines also. Would put him right in bed they were so painful. The Imitrex worked great for him, hope they do for you also|thumb

Seems pretty common, though not fun I'm sure. My daughter gets bad headaches, though seems less as she gets older. She was to the doctor with cat scan, tests and all, nothing wrong. So they say.
Hope you feel better Jim..:) ronnie |
My sis used to have debilitating migraines...the Imitrex works has done wonders for her

Hi Jim,
How is Imitrix working for you? My wife suffers from migraines...she used the injection once, but the tingling rush was more than she wanted to experience. She had good experience with Vioxx and those other drugs they took off the market, so she's currently looking again for something that works. Seems like everytime she finds something she likes, they ban it. Best wishes, Mike B |
Hi Mike
I was just given the prescription yesterday and so far so good. But, I didn't have headaches everyday. When I feel one coming on, I will let you know. |
Good luck Jim.
I used to have headaches everyday but was only stress related. I quit my job and the headaches went away. I am not making that up. Take care! |

Anyway, I am jumping the gun. I think they are just migraines. |
Jim, I am surprised that he diagnosed it as migraines if you were able to drive yourself to the doctor. Movement, light and sound make me physically sick when I have a migraine. I have to lay in a dark room, with a pillow over my head, and as much sound as possible removed. If I do have to adjust or move to get comfortable, that usually causes me to get sick. Most people that I know who have migraines have very similar symptoms to varying degrees.
Imitrex is good if you catch it as a migraine is starting, and it will work over the course of a day or so if you take it after the full blown migraine has begun, but why does he want you to take it for a week? It's not a daily medication and if it's treating a migraine it shouldn't take a week of imitrex to figure it out. :-( MikeB, has your wife tried Maxalt (rizatriptan)? I went to it because the imitrex pill didn't cut it anymore and I HATE having to self-inject imitrex although it works. Maxalt melts on your tongue, which was a BIG PLUS to me because most times my migraines are bad enough that I am sick to my stomach too, so taking the imitrex was a waste cause it didnt stay in my stomach long enough to dissolve. |

I know the side effects and they kind of worry me. My stomach is really sensitive to some meds. Like antibiotics. I can only take Cipro (I think that's how you spell it). Anything else and I stop taking it after a day. You want to talk about expensive medication..I had to buy Cipro during the Anthrax scare. I ended up paying almost $25/pill. The antibiotics were actually more expensive than the dental work I had done that made me have to take it.

Migrains suck big time, hope you get well soon and this new med. will help.
Damn, those antibiotics are expensive. Now I used to have the same side effects when taking antibiotics. Last time my neighbor, a doctor gave me Protexin, an over the counter product which is made in the UK and all my problems and side effects disappeared. I highly recommend it to you. http://www.google.com/search?q=probi...en-US:official |
Good Luck Jim -
It's weird, my grandmother got migraines similar to Jim 3 or 4 a week. I get 2 a year, almost like clockwork. One in the Spring, (knock on wood - so far not yet) and one in the fall. Although they take me completely out of action, like fetish1, dark room, don't move etc... but it only lasts a day. I just deal with it, but 3 a week? I couldn't anything done. |
