How often and how much do do you update your site?

We find the best way to convert and retain members on www.paulmarkhamteens.com is to keep updating with new content. We know a few other very successful sites that do the same. The return cusomers are awesome as well.

So how often do you update and how much?

We put up at least 3 new sets or videos a day. 90 pieces a month helps retention.

Well, you shoot your own content and you have a storehouse of content dating back years and years that you use. Most sites do not update daily. It all depends on the content/niche I guess. Most exclusive video sites probably update once per week. Those with non-exclusive content will often times update more than once per week..but not always.

good points, but do you think that matters to the surfer?

Paul, was the first time at the consumer site of yours, but for me (personaly) it looks to complecated and also to complecate to find a join or pay link button. Maybe you work first on the site structure before you thionk about updates?

I'm converting under 1:450 and have 3 sign up buttons on every page, so maybe it was to complicated only for you. |huh

For me it depends on the site. I always try to update at least twice a week, has worked well for my sites so far.

Ramster 2006-03-26 08:48 AM

Depends on the site.

I run one with 90% exclusive content that is updated 2 times weekely. Hi quality movies each time. The other site is nearly all nonexclusive and it is updated 5 times per week.

Single model sites I think could get away with 1-2 times a week. Most of the reality sites are weekly and many retain good, some don't of course.

Sites without exclusive content need to update more than those who recognize the value of exclusivity.

with exclusive costing ten times more than non exclusive they need to spend a lot more money as well.

By exclusive do you mean this is the only place you can see this girl on that sofa or a themed exclusive therefore different from the other 100 sites offering the same exclusive content?

emmanuelle 2006-03-26 03:38 PM

By exclusive I mean that we use a variety of girls with distinctly different looks; in a variety of locations, with an unlimited number of themes. Most of our girls are first timers, and so yes, this is the only place you will see her.
Only 1 of our 20 sites relies on content that is not shot in house.

Then again, since we dont offer boring sites of lookalike emaciated blonde teens toying themselves in one of the same five locations, we need to be a little different.

The way you do it I would agree, theming a site will lengthen retention. The more you theme it the longer the retention, simply because you have so little competition from other sites.

Lets say you do a site of black girls with balloons, if you're the only place a guy can get this content then you have him by the Short And Curlies. The only problem is you limit your appeal as well.

The sites I don't believe do any better with exclusive then non exclusive are the ones that have content similar to what can be found on a 1000 other sites. The solo girl on a sofa with a dildo. But at the appeal is enormous for these sites the traffic is good.

I believe what is fairly exclusive about our paysite is the level of quality, not everyone is into crappy pictures. |loony|

pretty much every day, sometimes twice a day

I also use this as a selling point for some of my sites and display this info in an iframe on the tour:

I'm not a content site, but I do update the link directory every day (or try to). For a couple weeks though I haven't had enough time in the day to update because of web design work coming in. But I am hoping to spend a good solid week adding things I've been wanting to with the directory next week :)

It's all relative no matter what kind of site you have. The more fresh content you update with the better. Doesn't take a Brain Surgeon to figure that out.

If you have a link list that you hardly ever update with fresh content how long do you think your visitors are going to stay around?

wombat 2006-03-28 03:23 PM

2-4 times a week. If there is enough time every day of course.

Jasun 2006-04-06 09:02 PM

we add a new model every week with a full photoset, a full length move and highlight clips, but we also have 5 live shows a week and the archive gets updated with those..
