question about video compression
 

hi,
I'm trying to convert some video from wmv format to mpeg format. I would like to use mpeg1 so that there are no codecs needed. I tried a conversion program which works nice but the new mpeg files are huge. It takes a 700k wmv file and makes it a 7.5 meg mpeg what I'm wondering is if anyone knows of a program or technique I can use to convert these wmv files to mpeg and keep the file size reasonable.

I may have solved my own problem I found a cool program called eo video that lets me select the quality of mpeg output and reduce the size and it works pretty good.

I'm still open to any other suggestions/words of wisdom other people have.
