why ICQ???

I have used this messenger in the past ... i have even had 3 or 4 accounts and i HATE the program... why do webmasters insist on using it... is yahoo or msn not a good messenger to use???
what messenger do you use?? also do you use another messenger, if so what is it???

ICQ was the the first free "IM" program, was adopted early on by the adult Internet community and remains the program of choice.

I was using ICQ for talking with clients and vendors in 1997-98 when doing adult web hosting and streaming video. It saved us a fortune on long distance telephone charges. In fact, I still have my original UIN.

one thing to consider is Trillian, it is cross IM ready.
You can talk with people from Aim, Aol, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo...plus it has a pretty good MiRC client built in

stuveltje 2006-04-22 07:06 PM

i just keep using icq and freak out ones in awhile:D

kristian 2006-04-22 08:20 PM

Whenever someone asks why does everyone use ICQ, the answer is always because everyone uses icq (except Jim :D).

MrYum 2006-04-22 09:42 PM

I agree with the other comments about ICQ has been around forever and has very large saturation amongst webmasters.

Personally, I got tired of the instability in some of the recent versions and moved to Miranda IM several months ago. Took a bit of getting used to, but now I like it a lot. Very stable and works across multiple platforms although I rarely use it for anything other than ICQ...because EVERYONE uses ICQ :D

What's ICQ?

nekrom 2006-04-23 12:09 AM

If anyone wants to contact me, my ICQ# is 4

Jim 2006-04-23 08:45 AM

I used to use powwow before icq was around. I even had a powwow server setup. It does seem icq is the crappiest software out there but...what can webmasters that us instant messaging do? As most know, I use nothing unless it is an emergency.

That's why created IRC because of powwow :D

Jim 2006-04-23 09:43 AM

Jim (and everyone else)
GET TRILLIAN

it rocks, no ads, etc. why people still use the canned messengers with all those popups and shit is beyond me.

Jim 2006-04-23 11:34 AM

I have Trillian and have had it for years. It's just the whole instant messaging I hate. But, I agree...if you are going to use instant messaging, Trillian is the way to go. Even if it's only because it has encryption capability.

Simon 2006-04-23 11:48 AM

Just so the Mac users won't feel left out...

Fire is like Trillian.

It will handle all the major chat protocols in one client for you.

tickler 2006-04-23 12:33 PM

I've had ICQ since about 97-98, but, since my nick is also a fetish I get tons of requests all the time. Mostly young things wanting to be tickled 'till they pee themselves.|badidea|

I generally have it turned off except for when I want to initiate a conversation with someone. In fact I haven't even got around to installing it on my current computer yet.|goodidea

cd34 2006-04-23 12:37 PM

or Gaim

http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

don't leave out the Linux users..... :)

Sergio_TeenBoys 2006-04-23 12:40 PM

The same shit as about mp3. Icq is just commonly adopted format

I tried it and yanked it out before the day was over :(

PR_Tom 2006-04-23 01:18 PM

The ads suck. So it's best to remove them :D

Jeka 2006-04-23 02:48 PM

why not? what's wrong with it? I have absolutely no problem with it and I'm using it since 98. MSN sucks!

kevsh 2006-04-29 11:32 AM

ICQ sucks, but everyone I talk to says the same thing: Their contacts list is so huge, they can't be bothered to switch over to something else.
