Link List earnings

I am wondering what Link Lists make money from, since linking to a bunch of free sites isn't gonna make you any money, I am guessing it is their links to pay sites they are affiliated to?

Just a newbie wondering

Fonz 2006-05-23 12:33 PM

- Textlinks to paysites (usually appear with the same look as the freesites but in a different category)
- Hosted freesites listed amongst the other freesites
- Banner ads

Xallow 2006-05-23 12:40 PM

hosted freesites? you mean galleries hosted by the sponsor but with your affiliate linking to the signup?

Yes, just as Hosted Galleries are for TGP's, Hosted Free Sites are for Link Lists.

But that's just one of the ways to make money - some of us made money before HFS's came around :D

Aside from the paysite links & banner ads, you can also list your own sites, feed your other lists/hubs & whatnot.

I make most of my money selling pixel ads on my submission page.

Xallow 2006-05-23 02:44 PM

Pixel adds?

Most of the link list members of this board, including myself, are pixelated :D

SecretEden 2006-05-23 03:08 PM

What scripts do you guys use for your link lists? I have found various ones:

Hot Links SQL
Link Admin
Links 2.1 Extended
Links SQL
LinkSystem
TDScripts - Link Organizer
X Power Links

Those are all listed at porn resource. Only problem is, they're all very expensive. I would like a hub site to list all my freesites, but Im not sure i should even consider spending 'big' money before I even make a buck!

I am still waiting for my earnings to happen...|jackinthe

How true. |pokefun|

When I first saw the title of this thread I jumped on it, ready to state that I had diamonds spilling from my pockets so you can imagine my disappointment when I saw the actual question. :D

Then don't start a linklist. ;)

If you are just talking about automating your hub, then there are a couple programs that could work. Off the top of my head, TGP Rotator will list text descriptions of galleries that you enter, so it could do the same thing for free-sites I imagine and it runs like $75 or something. I think there are even a few free LL scripts out there, if all you are doing is listing your own sites then they wouldn't have to be too robust, so they might actually work for you.

Me, I'd just ad the links manually and run phpadsnew, that would save you time and headaches...or you could even run your free-site links through phpadsnew as text ads that rotate in a seperate zone.

How's that for a completely crapulent answer?

SecretEden 2006-05-23 04:26 PM

I appreciate the answer Preacher, and I understand where your coming from - I totally realise this is not a game, and I cant expect everything (anything!) for free. Right now Im thinking a link list is a touch over kill for my needs. All I need is a hub, and right now that could even be a static page. I figure if im lucky enough to make a few hundred bucks, the main thing is to reinvest that capital and buy decent programs and scripts and make everything I do more streamlined. Ill take a look into those two programs you mentioned.

And hey, if you ever want to give away one of those diamonds, my girlfriend keeps asking about engagement - I could sure use on of those right about now! :)

SecretEden,

If you really want a cheap one read: free) that only has some basic features (you get what you pay for) you can try Easy Link List.
I run it on one of my small LL's (www.mature-erotica-links.com) and it does the job it's supposed to do but there are a lot of features missing for running a LL where you accept submissions from other people.

Xallow 2006-05-23 04:40 PM

Do you really need any programs to run a linklist? If you want to review all the sites before you add them, I can't really see the need for anything but a reciprocal link checker.

Well, good luck with your LL then :)

No really, what if you're getting like 50 submits a day, are you really going to add all those 50 links + descriptions by hand, in different categories. You'll lose lots and lots of time that you could spend making money other ways with that.

Fonz, I see that this script is written in php but is it storing in mysql?

SecretEden 2006-05-23 04:52 PM

Ehhhh! Nice one Fonz.

Xallow - imo you cant beat computers doing repetative jobs for you. I dont know where I would be today without Macros, i use them for everything in my day job!

It was a question not a statement since I know nothing about it

No, it's storing it's data in files. I don't know what extension these files have. They just show up as the description of the link and are about 200 bytes in size.

Surfn 2006-05-23 06:10 PM

Link lists are suppose to make money? I use them for tax writeoffs...

juggernaut 2006-05-23 09:21 PM

I have been using phplinkdirectory. There is a free full working version that is very easy to customize. Has some good features.

These things are supposed to make $$$???

WTF! I thought this was all for shits n giggles :D

To your question about using a link list script on your hub. Definitely use the KISS principle...keep it simple, you don't need anything fancy. If and when you do decide to do a full link list, yes...then you will want a quality script to help manage tasks.

Xeno 2006-05-24 02:28 AM

I'd tell ya but tax man might be listening.... lol....j/k, I pay my taxes
|couch|

but on a serious note: some make money yes, and many don't, and then the ones that do will all be different from each other. Really depends on factors like, how are they setup to make money, how are they marketing themselves, do they get a good sponsor ratio of sales from clicks, is the webmaster business minded, does he/she manage their money right...lots of variables :) Basically you can make as much money as you put effort in with a mix of creativity, smarts, and management.
