can't see pictures on my site
 

Hi. I just signed up with a new host--all excited about not being sodomized by 3.80 per gig traffic cost anymore--and, on Wednesday, uploaded most of my main site to this new land-of-milk-and-no-buggery. Although the index.htm file and the gif and jpeg files on said htm are in the same folder and the link paths are relative--ie. src="image.gif"--I'm getting the broken link/image thing instead of pictures. The same is true for all the pages that follow. When I enter the url of the actual image file, it shows up just fine. Then, if I use my back button to go to that first page, the image is there. If, however, I refresh the page, the image is gone again. I know this means my browser cache is sticking the image into the page, er...I think I know that. I think I think that. I'm confused and unable to see what is probably staring me right in the face. Or biting me right in the ass. Or something. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I'd like to change my dns and start living the life of a dollar-a-gig-fatcat soon. Check you paths..
on the second page, forth first broken pic, I get this

file:///H|/newtransfer/dvdorama/dvdorama_banners_1_files/banners-1_files/urentdvd4_468x60.gif

as the path when I right click and go to properties..

on the first page, they are all
http://15750.20951.net/~smutman/whatever.gif

check the path in the html..seems to me it's pointing to someplace that hasn't got the pics

Yep, you're right about that dvdorama banner--thanks. I'll definately have to go through and look for more links like that.Still not sure what's up with the others, though.

This is bizarre - I've just looked at your site and done what you did with exactly the same result. I have absolutely no idea why this is happening though I'm afraid. I was expecting the image path to be wrong - but obviously it isn't.

I see that you have htaccess in place. Have you added 15750.20951.net as a valid domain?

I would remove the htaccess all together while testing.

Thanks to both of you for taking a look--I'm extremely glad someone else got the same result with their browser. I just knew someone was going to post a reply saying "have you not checked the 'make pictures visible' box that's right over there?" As it turns out, the new hosting company set up a new root/home/directory area for me. I just finished uploading, and it seems to be cool. If anyone has the time and/or inclination, the temorary url is http://www.maxxxhosting.net/~smutman
As I'm now paranoid that every image that appears on my computer only does so because there's a copy on my hard drive already, please let me know if you can see the lovely pictures.
One other thing--I have a newfound respect for the simple text link. During this exciting business, the one thing that was always perfectly formed and as it should be on the page was the link-o-rama recip...sitting there smugly and mocking me with its green, green glow.

I clicked a few levels in and all was fine. :)

Yeah, I htaccessed myself out of that smsinema banner there. A little hasty with the "nobody's gonna hotlink MY ass!" shit. I'll be leaving the htaccess out of the new site until I can think through what all needs to be allowed in. Thanks again.

Incidentally, has anyone noticed, when writing a reply here, that the collection of animated characters to your immediate left form a pretty reasonable facsimile of Homer Simpson's pre-Mr. X webpage? Just need to get that Jesus to do a little dance.
