The official lavalamp thread

Talk about your lavalamps here.

Mine is retro looking (haha)...
Silver with blueish water inside, and green goo.
110 / 220 (whatever it takes)

Takes about 16 minutes to heat up just right but once it gets going, I could watch it for hours.

Torn Rose 2006-06-15 04:19 PM

I have two, baby blue and burgundy, both are in the other room unplugged, I just never bothered to get new bulbs when we moved.

added to the shopping list...

sue-fl 2006-06-15 04:24 PM

LOL...mine has purple goo in it and still fascinates me even though I'm pot free now :D

stuveltje 2006-06-15 04:30 PM

last time i bought 2 for my kids, they choose both the color red, i find it stupid things ( i am not gonna say the reason why, oke i burned my hands on them) my kids plugged them every eve, t relaxed them , so if they think its great then its fine with me:) still it are stupid things:D

Just leave the light on, eventually it would fix itself, or turn it off which would take much longer, It would take a few days, but it would fix itself, I’ve done it to mine just to see what would happen. But the really fast fix would be to put a 60 watt bulb in it; it would force it all to the top. (It would be too hot to drop down at all)

awww geez, and i tossed it because they said on the package that shaking it would cause it to be ruined :(
I tossed out my cool ball that had that purple and blue lightening in it at the same time, but that was because when they shook the lava lamp they didn't realize that it had two parts

one part hit my electric ball thingy at a high rate of speed... cool effect for about a second

note, do not rush at a child with something fragile in their hands saying the word "NO!" repeatedly and loudly... the worst WILL happen heh heh

cool.... we've moved into lava lamp repair.

Imagine the SE possibilities of this thread. ;)

virgohippy 2006-06-15 08:36 PM

I've got 2 too! :D

One of mine has nothing but sparkly glitters in it. It's not that interesting once it's all warmed up, but the chaos it makes when it's just getting started is AWESOME man! |thumb

I had 1 in college. It was green, I took the junk out of it and put it in a JD bottle, and it worked. Everyone loved it then it fell out my car door :(

MrYum 2006-06-15 09:55 PM

Yup, 2 here too...one red and one blue |thumb

It appears no one got my "Mr. Mom" joke. :(

tickler 2006-06-15 10:47 PM

I have 3, plus a couple of the night lights with the glitter.

I am waiting for this one to become available.

I have one Harley Davidson Lava Lamp that looks like an old gas pump with oil flowing through. But, speaking of repair...my daughter had one that lost some liquid. They say don't open it but I did and topped it off with water. I tested it and after about an hour, it exploded :)

docholly 2006-06-16 08:18 AM

Mine has yellow liquid and red goo.. is over 30 years old. probably closer to 40 and has been schleped around the world and still keeps on ticking.

I think i'm stuck in the 70's. |headbang|

Fonz 2006-06-16 08:26 AM

We have 4 (blue sparkles, regular blue, pink sparkles, and some messed up combo of colors that's very old) plus 2 of those smaller night-light lava lamps (very cool!). Most are the kids but I do have one in my room.
