freesite templates?

I have read that people recommend having aboug 30 or so templates built for freesites that they can use but my question is this....do the templates have to be designed differently as in picture/text/banner placement in different spots or can different colors be considered also. It seems to me that it is a little difficult to come up with 30 completely different designs all together.

I hope I am clear on this. |confused|

well if you make say 7-8 different index pages, and 7-8 different main pages, gallery pages etc. and then you can mix and match to make 30 different templates.

A different template needs to have a overall different design not just a color change, but you dont have to be totally drastic. Just enough so all your templates dont look the same. With a little creativity its pretty easy.

I know that if we see the same templates with different fonts & colors, we tend to put those submitters on the watch list.

I'd recommend you build as many completely different designs as you can.

I was thinking along these lines but just wanted to check to see what others thought.

Thanks.

You can also try having a little photoshop fun with graphics here and there. |thumb

As Greenie said, the more the better. I would make at least a few totally new templates a week for the next weeks submissions so you're not stuck making them while you submit.

Having a rotating sequence won't hurt either, so as to minimize the amount of times LL and surfers see your templates.

Understood. I have been building galleries, but if I match different galleries different with different index's and different main pages, should I use 2 different gallery designs or the same gallery design design to keep it symetrical? Or does it matter? I seem to see both.

Yeah, I know but I thought that I would get a clean design first and then add graphics if I feel there necessary. But it I understand correctly it seems that graphics can be a double edged sword. Sure they look pretty, but they require more bandwidth and the loss of using text for SEO. I know people have their different opinions but am I correct for thinking this way?

I think so. The galleries and freesites of mine that converted the best are the simplest looking ones.

Yes. Which is why it's good to keep it sparse. A little border work, a bit of fancy play with text graphics, some adequate file compression, and you've got maybe 20-30kb of bandwidth... much less than a full size image. And, If you do your file structure right it only downloads on the first hit. |thumb
