Free Site for review

Hello all,

I've made my first free site (I was in mainstream biz before), and I need your reviews. Please tell me what do you think about it, what should I change, you know...

The url is: http://www.my-asian-kitty.com/free-porn/test/

Thanks for your time in advance! |thumb

The site is a hair over 800 wide so you'll get declined with the LL's that have the 800 rule in place (try changing the width of the tables from 775 to 750)

The galleries appear to have the same thumbs & movies.

kitty_kate 2006-06-26 08:29 AM

The galleries do have the same thumbs & movies, I'm still working on the content to fill them.

About the table's width, I've assumed that 25 pixels should be enough for the vertical scrollbar. Seems I'm wrong :) I'll fix that.

Thanks for the feedback!

Do you own JP18 or are you using their free hosting?

kitty_kate 2006-06-26 10:04 AM

JP18 is not mine.
I'm just using their hosting.

juggernaut 2006-06-26 10:13 AM

Your table is 775 width, thats what's giving you your scroll. It's not the vertical scroll anyone cares about its the left to right. Change your table width to 750 should clean up the issue. Other things were already mentioned.

That sponsor hosting will cost you a lot of listings. Very few link sites accept free/sponsor hosting these days.

A few other comments :)

Entry page;

Your sponsor banner isn't linked. Don't be afraid to wrap a bit of juicy text above and/or below that banner. Make that surfer want to click.

Also, you'll need to have the title of your site on the entry page. Some link sites prefer that it be somewhere in the top half of the page.

Main page;

Again, top sponsor banner isn't linked...and add a bit of text to the banner.

"Want to See Full Quality Movies" is a pretty blind link. Here's a good thread on blind links;

http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...ad.php?t=23441

A personal preference here...not sure how many reviewers would decline for it. Text like "gets assaulted in a backroom" is one of my pet peeves.

Gallery One;

Top banner not linked...add text. You've repeated the same sentence twice at the top of the page.

Gallery Two;

Same issues as gallery one.

That's about all I got...overall not a bad effort, just needs some tweaking :)

This brings up a question I have been meaning to ask.

Most LL's state no freehost and it is even in mine as well but when I think freehost I think of kinghost, pornparks,etc.

What do you and the other larger LL owners feel about a sponsors free host? Is this no different than free hosted site that most list? Or should this not be allowed as well?

I received a submission like this and was not sure if I should list it. After a couple days half the other LL's listed it so I went ahead and did so as well, since it was a good looking site, but I want to make sure I am on the same page as the rest of you.

Sponsor hosted sites are considered by most as free-hosting. What's the problem with that, sponsors go bust all the time. So there goes your hosting.

What if the sponsor isn't doing to well and decides to add a banner filled frame above every site it hosts?

The thing is, you should control your own content, and with ANY kind of free hosting there is the possibility that someone else has access to it.

And to your last point, you should list what YOU feel is comfortable and not worry about others list. I'm sure during my whois checking I've missed a freehost or two that I didn't recognize as being one. Other linklist owners may have done the same, or maybe they just don't care about it enough to deny a site.

JustRobert 2006-06-26 08:17 PM

Preacher,
Thanks for your response, it is much appreciated.

I am not to worried about the going bust part, due to anyone can go bust at any time. Life does seem to throw a curve ball every once in awhile. But I did forget about them being able to drop in a frame anytime they feel like it.

Thanks again

kitty_kate 2006-06-27 03:12 AM

Thanks all for the feedback! I will consider everything you said

kitty_kate 2006-06-27 03:43 PM

Me again.

I've started to re-design that free site, but meanwhile I have a request for you: could anyone post here a little piece of screenshot of his vertical scrollbar of his browser at 800x600, together with the browser's name and his OS version, please?

I've tested the sample on my computer, at 800x600, win xp, several themes, IE and FF and it looks fine.

I'm just curious, that's all. :)

Thanks again.

See the attached image. I circled the scroll. |thumb

Good luck.

*EDIT*
Whoops, forgot the rest of the info. Windows XP pro, IE 6.0 running the MS developers toolbar that let's me resize to 800x600 (a fantastic tool)!

kitty_kate 2006-06-27 06:37 PM

Thank you, Preacher, you helped me a lot. Now I understand what happened (presuming that all the others who saw that bloody scroll did the same thing as you).

As already said, I've tested myself how it looks on 800x600, with two browsers and applying several XP themes. From your screenshot, I've realized one thing, though: when IE is not maximized, it shows the window border (6 pixels wide in XP default theme). So, if you resize its window to 800x600, the visible area of the page you're looking at it's smaller with about 12 pixels. When you are in 800x600 and have the window maximized, the window's border is hidden.

When I did my tests, I was at 800x600 screen resolution, and had the browsers maximized. When you did yours, you where at a higher resolution, and the window was not maximized, so you "lost" 12 pixels of the viewing area.

From my mainstream sites experience, I always consider 20 pixels of vertical scrollbar and add another 5 pixels just to be sure. Now I saw that I have to add more just to be sure :)

( boring long post, isn't it? )

Thanks again, Preacher.

You know, I may be butting in a bit too much here, and feel free to disregard this triviality, but...

I looked at how you built your shadow graphics around your content, and you may not know that you can achieve this effect in a much easier fashion with a little css cheat. If I recall correctly it won't work for firefox, but it degrades very nicely.

In that center content section you just wrap that in a div or table tags -- though div's are preferred in css. Then you wrap that with another div with a class of dropshadow. Then in your css you define the dropshadow class as something like this:

.dropshadow{width:700px;padding:8px;filter:shadow(color:gray,strength:5, direction:135)}

That filter will add a drop shadow to what you have wrapped with that div. It's not foolproof, but it's a much simpler way to get the effect you were looking for and seeing as your external css shows you know what you are doing in css, I figured I might as well mention it just in case you want to try it in the future. :D

Oh and I'd welcome your nice css styled free-sites at my LL. :D

kitty_kate 2006-06-27 07:20 PM

I won't disregard it, because is not a triviality :) Any piece of advice could be pretious...

I've read about that thing and the other css effects invented by Microsoft, but never used them outside my tests. I don't like the fact that they are working only on IE and that's why I did not used them by now.

Be sure that your Depraved LiLies are on my submit list :D As soon you'll see me these days waiting to be reviewed; and this is true for a lot of other board members!

Thanks again for your time |thumb

The side scroll looks pretty much the same in Firefox 1.5.0.4/WinXp SP2.

Sounds like you've already got a handle on the issue |thumb

You did the same thing, you've resized the window to 800x600, right? (i see in your screenshot the window border I was talking about 2 posts ago).

Thanks for your time, MrYum (we'll meet soon on your LL's review list )

Yep...same process...different browser...wanted to make sure you got to see it in both :)

Looking forward to seeing your sites |thumb

kitty_kate 2006-06-28 05:27 PM

Ok, I just uploaded the fixed layout. The url is the same: http://www.my-asian-kitty.com/free-porn/test/

Could you please look again and tell your oppinion? Don't worry about the content (pics and movies are the same for both galleries).

Thanks.

Preacher 2006-06-29 01:17 AM

No scroll for me. |thumb
