Google Dance

Hi Guys. Looks like google is doing a good, old fashioned dance to me...anyone else seeing signs of this?

What are you seeing? I noticed we got a new PageRanking a few days ago.. but I am definitely curious to know whats going on.

virgohippy 2006-07-27 03:30 PM

Yeah, I noticed google has started paying more attention to my sites. |thumb

Dont know if you noticed it where you are but Google had a severe outage last night - and the results Im seeing right now look like theyve rolled back the database two days or so, and havent put the filters into place yet - best guess here

Interesting comment, Linkster. I'm seeing lots of changes on a site that has been steady for a couple of years now. Some good some bad. Also, a bunch of my other sites are showing signs of movement, most of those positive. To me, it looks like a full-blown dance like they used to do in the old days. Could the google outage explain something like that? It's hard for me to tell everything right now, because the place that I host that steady site is having problems too (according to my logs, although they're denying any problems).

Interestingly - Ive noticed one change that has me kinda baffled - they seem to be filtering(censoring) a few more word combinations than they used to - in the past if the phrase had two meanings they would just allow the best site to rank whether it was adult or not. It looks like either their filters are all out of whack, or they are adding some phrases to that list - maybe they are getting ready for the firestorm ahead :)

The database rollback is definitely there - although like you mentioned Capt - that wouldnt affect a site that had ranked for that long - the only other info I have available right now is that Adsense also went down last night as part of the outage - not sure if Google has any ties between the index and that - but I wouldnt be surprised no matter how much they decline to answer that one :)

Are you sure it's a rollback to just a couple of days back? Several of the keywords that I had got a top3 position in the past month seemed to have moved to the 2nd/3rd pages.
On the other hand, one of my blogs that managed to get most of it's pages in supplemental results is now coming out on the first/second pages. A major spike in google traffic to the tune of 2k extra visitors yesterday for this site.
Overall, I hope you are right and it's not a change in their algorithm. I sent 5k less hits yesterday to sponsors than my daily average :(

Well - it looks like whatever it was its gone now

I seen movement this mouring as well, G started liking my one LL about 3 or 4 months ago and been getting better and better, and today I was ranking killer for the various xxx terms I been getting...

as linkster said whatever it was has stopped...I noticed some days ago that spam moved in for some terms I was doing good for and that seems cleaned out now

ladydesigner 2006-07-28 06:39 PM

Well, I'm sad to say I've lost all PR on most of my category pages of BOTH my link list. WTF?!

Reports of a data refresh or data push (whatever you want to call it) came in early morning July 26th.

GoogleGuy regarding the refresh posted July 27th:

Quote:

There was a data refresh on June 27th that lots of people ask about, but there was also a data refresh in the last 1-2 days that refreshes the same data. Going forward, I'd expect that the cycle time would go down even more, possibly down to once a week for that particular algorithm.
He continues (off topic):

Quote:

72.14.207.104 has some newer infrastructure that makes site: queries more accurate, and in general that infrastructure also improves results for other queries too. But the infrastructure at 72.14.207.104 is orthogonal/independent of many other changes.
