are you being served?
My main site http://www.hadafew.com is on a dedicated server at M3server.com
I'm now building some more sites - all pretty substantial - and obviously I want to link them all. But what's the best plan? I'm thinking about search engines, primarily. Should I have distinct servers for each major domain? Should I have distinct hosts? |
I think if you ask 10 people this you will get 10 answers.
I pretty much do the same thing using two servers. I mostly have two servers so that if one goes down I still have stuff up, that and I get a good deal. :D From what I understand no one seems to know for sure what benefit if any there is having domains spread across hosts as far as SE traffic goes. BTW: I'm also with M3 Server and very happy. :) |
Thanks Cleo :)

I'm pretty happy with them but I sometimes think that they tend to ignore me due to my lack of technical knowledge (for example it recently took 3 days and three emails to get permissions set up for running a gossamer threads script, and they weren't very forthcoming with information.) Having said that, I've been waiting for months for a reply from Richard over at usefulscripts .... |
Yeah I don't have them do any script installs or anything like that, just keep my servers up and serving is all that I ask of a host. ;)
That being said I have needed server stuff that required root access like installing ImageMagic and for stuff like that is was done in a few days or less. Most techs don't seem to have very good people skills. LOL Do a lot of webmasters ask hosts to do script installs? I've always thought things like that were up to the webmaster, same as doing your html docs. I guess it is about what level of support you want to pay for. If you have a box at a place like the RackShack then you will be lucky to even get someone to hit the reset button, you are basically on your own as far as maintaining your server. Scripts are easy to install, but I guess that is because I've done so many of them. Back to your question I believe most webmasters just use one box for all of their domains. |

Hey Eman - if you ever need any help with the GT script, hit me up, If I can help, I will :-)
Paul. |
eman - Richard has been burried with other stuff, so he hired MrMaryLou to do the installs for Link Admin about a week ago. I'll have MML contact you :)

For a domain I plan on using like that I get my host to put it on a separate IP. Like Cleo said you'll get different answers but that is always good to do of course. I have all my TGPs or Link Lists on their own IP for linking purposes. |
