What percent recurring?
 

Just curious folks, what percentage of your monthly income is recurring?

Mine is not very high, I have been focusing on PPS but have decided to invest a little more time into recurring. I had always been of the opinion that I would rather have all my money upfront. :D

Your concern should not be whether to go PPS or revshare, but the absolute income potential of the sites/sponsors you promote. It's all very well people talking about revshare as some kind of insurance or whatever, but that only works if your total income doesn't suffer as a result.

I'm a fan of revshare because the type of sites which run successful revshare programs are those which give most of their visitors a positive experience. But there are very few such programs and over the past couple of years I have seen revshare being devalued by start-ups using it to minimize their risk, while not having what it takes to acheive good renewal ratios.

In short, if you are convinced that a site is good enough to keep its members renewing, revshare every time. But if a site only has a strong tour, then either leave it alone or go PPS.

I think revshare is better for things like dating or webcams (where people either actually really interested in the site and want to stay a member for an affordable price, or can spend $1000's), and per sign up is better for straight porn

I try to blend both pps and revshare equally, but revshare sometimes drives me crazy. I have a sponsor that converts better than 1:600 thru CCBILL, but the recur rate is around 15% and at $24.95 per member signup, that's not much. Do I keep this sponsor or not? This is a classic situation where I wish they had a pps program.

Our conversion rate is monthy usually better than that.. but amazingly our rebills are around 85% for September ..

when we get a proper programme page designed and more regular promo material we might attract better affiliates and they start to fly a little better

Revshare reoccuring is dependent on a few factors.... your traffic quality, type of traffic (loyal returning customers, etc), site quality and type of site. I would advise asking to see the members area of the site to see the quality and content inside. Is this a site you would join? Loyalty sites like single model sites can be good as far as retention.

Typcially if it's PPS, there will be many things that will be changed for the programs business model in order for PPS to be successful: multiple exits, cross sales, heavy upsells, trades, etc. Not always the case, but your traffic will be monetized in a way to make PPS a viable option for the sponsor.

I have no problem showing affiliates our members area. It helps in becoming a better sales person to know the product.

The thing to stress is that there are many variations on both business models, therefore even asking if one is intrinsically better than the other is inviting misdirection.

On the one hand, volume solves many sponsors' problems, so there are some big PPS programs which do not abuse surfers or webmasters too badly. But greed is often part of the equation, so you cannot take it for granted that will be the case.

As I noted before, revshare can be better all round, but many startups go that route believing (often wrongly) that it reduces their risk and the capital needed to start. Thus like PPS, all revshare is not created equal.

No matter which payout model is offered, you need to go over the tours and content areas very critically. Once you are promoting someone, watch your income very carefully, but objectively. For example, if you have a strong, well-placed promo on a site, you can anticipate a higher CTR but consequently a poorer conversion ratio than for a discreet promo on a less visited part of your page.
