New Bird Species I Discovered Last Night

1 Attachment(s)
I have a few hummingbird feeders hanging off the beams on my front porch as I like the peace of watching the little birds - although last night I found a new species out there - Ive named it the Gopherus Snakius bird
Real nice markings on it :)

I would imagine that like turkeys taking Gopherus Snakius bird up in an airplane and throwing them out to fly would not end well.

That's a real beauty. Must have recently shed.

Our hummingbirds were feeding heavily last week, but they have disappeared in the last few days - heading south.

Hey, and it's never too early for Christmas lights. :D

virgohippy 2006-09-18 02:52 AM

The curious little beauty was thirsty... cute! :)

Coming soon... "Gophers On A Plane!"

Definitely nice markings.

I like that big-ass orb weaver too... or is that a different kind of spider?

sue-fl 2006-09-18 09:02 AM

Yikes! If I went outside and saw that on my porch I'd be dead right now of a heart attack. I'm so afraid of snakes!

Turkeys would surprise you Cleo. When we lived in our other home, we had about 50 Turkeys running around about this time of year. When they were startled, I watched them fly about 400 yards to the tops of trees. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself.

Don't you yankee boys know anything? Those are party lights. However, his Christmas lights did stay up until his neighbors started a petition to force him into taking them down.

How big is she?

Linkster 2006-09-18 07:50 PM

Torn - about 2 and 1/2 inches across - about as big as they get - as they only live for one year just like most spiders
Although you dont know how hard it was to not post a snide remark with your question being right above Kats pic LOL

Chop - I cant believe that you posted my hanging reindeer display |jester|

Actually - its a real pain to redo that one set of lights and unless some idiot photographs them you can never see them :)

plateman 2006-09-18 08:24 PM

lol, Dirty Old Man!

I think its cool you let her be there, I would have no issue with it, but I think the wife would make me move her elsewhere far far far away from the house.

I like having the company :) Plus the gains you get by having less mosquitos and mice makes it all worthwhile - plus I still have my old friend in the back that keeps the nasty snake population down:

Plus this little lady helps with the mice and other little creatures:

Very cool critters Linkster |thumb

It's one of the things I love about this place is all of natures friends that cruise the area. Sometimes they eat each other, but that's all part of the big picture. So, I give em their space and leave them be...unless they're in the house...then they're toast :D
