Human species 'may split in two'
Evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry of the London School of Economics expects a genetic upper class and a dim-witted underclass to emerge.
The human race would peak in the year 3000, he said - before a decline due to dependence on technology. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6057734.stm |
Yeah, that was a fun and interesting article.
I don't know that I buy his speculations, but we can already see breeding differentiation between the classes. It's interesting to think about where we'll be in a thousand years. We'll be burning the last and worst of the coal and oil shales by that time. If we've been lucky. |
I'm not buying into his conclusions, but I'm pretty sure there is more than one "human" species already, and some that barely qualify to be called that. Our breeding patterns may eventually make things more evident, but the differences are already there to see.

I consider his conclusion, and the way it was written, as "this is one possible scenario".
To have genetical differences enough to warrant another species takes a lot. Though as a whole it does have some merit. |
I thought the world would end in 2012. Ah well we'll see :)

Humans are the only species on the planet that allows their misfits to breed.

Be afraid of the machines! When the computers start thinking for us we'll all become hobgoblins for the mechanical mind!!! |shocking|
Sorry... I couldn't resist. It's funny how this author assumes most people live, or will live, in highly developed, post-industrial, high tech conditions. I thought more people in this world lived in pre-high-tech conditions. |huh |
