XXXJay way to step up on Zango

Your post on GFY certainly makes it crystal clear as to what your all about.

Greenguy 2006-11-17 08:53 AM

Jim showed me that this morning - I have no idea who the other guy is, but I kinda get the feeling that he'd have been better off saying they were both morons.

T Pat 2006-11-17 09:26 AM

I just wasted a half hour looking for it.
Now like every time I go time I go to GFY I feel like I need to go take a shower, get a haircut and go get a real job

Greenguy 2006-11-17 09:46 AM

Oh man! Now I feel bad for T Pat :(

Thanks for the link I didn't see it. That's hurts.

AFF is/was stealing our traffic and I am slowly pulling ALL my links to them.

docholly 2006-11-17 10:56 AM

I guess that's what happens when you hang with the "cool" crowd.. probably why i prefer the FFN crew. :D

I only go there when I see references to it like this one. (Damn you Gonzo! :D ) I'm glad that I'm not the only who feels icky as a result of reading threads there. If one ever really wants to be truly embarrassed by their colleagues, or is looking for an explanation as to why the world thinks of us as pure scum, head to GFY. It is the very worst representation of this industry and its people. |thumb

And that's just the sig files!

You know, I had a rough morning so it feels good to get in a nice laugh.

That thread took a turn from ass kissing to wanting to lawyer up.
I found it iinteresting from Jays earlier stance here of wanting to once again ride in on his white horse and save us all to stepping up for his buddy Lars. Funny thing was it was ok as long as it wasnt happening to him. Makes you wonder how his program treats affiliates as well.

And I agree the worst of this industry hangs out there. If you are a thief, scammer or spammer you can buy your way into being a top notch guy!

I certainly hope Playboy is proud.

I guess being a thief or a drug addict is cool.

I joined the FSC

Dr Bizzaro 2006-11-17 07:18 PM

That was interesting.

Thanks for the link. I would have never even gone over there to look for it.

juggernaut 2006-11-17 11:33 PM

JESUS FUCKING CHIRST! Man I only post on this board and glad I do. I have those days where I realize I know nothing about this biz. Reading that board was one of those days. Have no clue who 90% of those people are, don't really care as their posts show they are not people I want to bother with. Dam I know I make some dumb posts, I can only see myself getting skinned alive over there. Well thanks for the post Gonzo only makes me realize I got lucky in finding this board.

GonZo 2006-11-18 12:22 AM

Dont thank me thank Jay for being crystal clear.

MightyMidget 2006-11-18 05:07 AM

Hehe, I remember when Fonz told me about GG&J after I submitted my first freesite to SmilingPussy (basically he said it looked awful and I had to ask for advice, which was true so thanks Fonz :) ). The picture in my head resembled what GFY looks like, so I was genuinely surprised when I saw how nice most people on GG&J were. Then much later I ran into GFY and I realized that there actually *are* adult boards that look just like the picture I had in my head - pretty awful!

I just couldn't help but fall on the floor and laugh my ass off when I saw your post Chop |thumb I needed that too it's been a rough couple months since we all got to hang out in Sin City :D

on a side note "why doesn't god heal amputees?" that is an important and valid question every webmaster should know according to the zoo.

jayeff 2006-11-18 10:02 AM

Here's a few pro's and con's:
  • I started a resource site at the beginning of September and began posting here (with a sig) about 10 days into the month. Despite that late start and its more restrictive sig rules, this board has generated the most visitors to date. GFY, where I have been posting since 2001, generated the fewest visitors of all the boards on which I post. However, Netpond and GFY visitors generated the most revenue. Make of those results what you will :)
  • I started visiting GFY out of curiousity and then noticed that I was picking up maybe twice as much info about new sites and special promotions as I received by email. That had me double-checking that my sponsors had my current email address, yes they did, so in the end I came to the conclusion that many sponsors live in a world in which existing affiliates are supposed to visit their sites for news. The situation has improved a little in the past 5 years, but however much rubbish appears on GFY, I still don't know a single source more likely to keep one reasonably up to date.
  • If you discount the obvious sig-whores and surfers, I would argue that GFY better represents a cross-section of the webmaster community than the boards which enforce their own standards. Certainly such enforcement makes the boards in question easier to use, but it also filters their posters, whereas on GFY you see everyone "in the raw" as it were. For better or worse, I like to see how people I may do business with behave when allowed to be themselves.

As to the XXXJay thing... I made my own observations about someone who runs both a sponsor program and a large traffic resource, apparently unconcerned that he was completely out of the loop on an issue which affected him directly (and negatively), but was nevertheless willing to take sides based solely on the personalities involved.

Unfortunately he isn't an exception and the reality of the scumware issue (and many others like it) is that they would never occur, were it not that those who decide to play dirty know that some will defend them because of who they are, while the vast majority of webmasters will stay on the sidelines. I doubt I shall ever understand why so few people in this industry are prepared to defend their business interests.

You're an ass. You can't simply discount that shit. Take GFY as a fucking WHOLE. As a WHOLE, it's a haven for idiots and sig whores. Which are you?

Who the hell wants to filter through all that shit? Who? Answer me GODDAMN IT!

Greenguy 2006-11-18 12:58 PM

Useless - he does sorta have a point - there are legit webmasters over there, but the number of "idiots and sig whores" is far greater.

GFY is a lot like a high school party that featured all the cool kids that 10 years later never amounted to anything - sure, there were some dorks at the party, but they live in mansions now :D

I can't believe your level of hostility.

Jayeff doesn't need me to speak up for him - he's far more articulate than am I - but I'd like to suggest that you spend a little time over at GFY and search out posts made by Jayeff. You'd discover that it's possible to present reasoned arguments without throwing insults.

I'd be willing to bet that in every legit thread that's started over there, there is at least one reply that would be considered useless, off topic, spammy, sig whore or just plain rude.

I've said it before - GFY has it's place in our world & I give Lensman all the credit in the world for starting it (and basically creating the sig market) but you can only sort thru so much shit to find a gem or 2.

emmanuelle 2006-11-18 02:38 PM

I think that most longstanding boards have their share of pros & cons. It's up to the individual to determine what they are willing to accept in order to get what they want or need from it. I don't find it difficult to peruse gfy with blinders on when I need to be there. Thankfully such occasions are rare these days though :D
