Holiday Wreath causes Controversy

This makes no sense to be. A woman is going to be fined for hanging a wreath in the shape of a peace sign

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061127/...nti_peace_sign

I just don't get it. I know that I am not an American, and I don't have a son (or daughter) fighting in a war, but to me the peace sign symbolizes exactly what it is - PEACE not Satan. I don't see it as Anti Iraq war - but Anti to all wars.

I too would like there to be Peace - what is so wrong with that?

ya seems a little nuts

Kearns ordered the committee to require Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything. Kearns fired all five committee members.

Homeowners Associations are an evil spawn and should be outlawed.

Linkster 2006-11-28 07:15 AM

Anyone that allows themselves to be ruled by a homeowners association pertaining to their house deserves anything they get

Simon 2006-11-28 07:27 AM

Linkster - I couldn't agree more. I was once foolish enough to live in a Manhattan condo ruled by a condo board. Never again will I put myself in that position (at least not unless I get to set up and run the show).

I think our own f69j69b lives in or near Pagosa Springs, so maybe he'll drop by to add some local color to this story.

lorsha 2006-11-28 07:38 AM

I totally agree it is insane.

However homeowner associations are known for wacky things like this, and when you live in a neighborhood that is governed by these organizations, you come to expect this nonsense.

Jim 2006-11-28 08:11 AM

Maybe someone watched the De Vinci Code and noticed that in the beginning, Tom Hanks claims that the peace sign came from Christ on the Cross hanging upside down :)

I don't think I could handle any committee tell me how I should live.

Sarah_Jayne 2006-11-28 09:37 AM

I would never live anywhere that told me what I could put on my house. If I own my house the screw the rest of them.

My Mom worked in the property management field in the San Francisco area. One company that she worked at for a number of years specialized in condos. I've heard the horror stories first hand, condo boards are the absolute worst form of Homeowner Association. There always some wanna be dictator that is board president.

Muwahahaha!

Prior to moving to Florida, I was the pres of a homeowners association. Fortunately, it was a very small group of townhomes...but even then...what a pain in the ass! Never NEVER again!

You wouldn't believe some of the phone calls I got...and the times I got them. Or, the evening when I had to make a citizens arrest of a drunk driver who was trying to change his two flat tires in our parking lot. These being the two tires he'd popped by sideswiping a curb down the block.

Did I mention...NEVER again |crazy|

Added: Forgot the intent of this thread. That guy is a fucking moron and needs to be dePres'd...much like the asshat running this country right now |club|

We just moved out a few months ago from the condo. The 1st year I had my American flag hanging outside. Then new management took over and I got a letter 1 month later telling me I was fined for having a flag outside. When I called and explained it was an American flag and I am a solider and the flag had been up for 1 year. They told me they would have to take it up with the officials. I then explained that if I am told to take it down they better come to the house with the police because it will not come down. I got a call back 10 minutes later telling me to disregard the notice. That was the start of me dieing to get out of the place. Another note was recent. I placed 10 6x10 inch concrete patio blocks outside my shed that I kept my bbq on. They also were there for 1 year and I made sure I read the rules before placing them down. I had inspectors from the association walking doing their weekly rounds for the whole year and this stuff was in plain sight. Once I left I got another letter telling me they were in violation and I was going to be fined $100.00. When I asked them how could their inspectors not say anything to me for 1 year they had no real response other then "they must have missed it". I tell you honestly there was no way of not seeing this stuff as it was directly to the right side of my doorway. They wanted me to take pictures of it and submit it for approval to the association. I just went there and removed the dam things, took pictures and then showed them they had been removed. Like NAZI's they are. One day I was so made about them I called them and told the lady in the office to suck my balls with their bullshit rules. That did not go over to well.

Me neither. I am very glad that there is no home owners association in my neighborhood.
