<blink> I miss you so much!

it got killed, died an untimely death because people were annoyed by the flashing, but attention getting text.

Now when we want to flash text we have to use graphics and how is that SE friendly? anyone else miss the much maligned but very useful animate my words tag?

I still use it a bit, sparingly, but a bit. Didn't realise it was dead? LL's turn you down for that?

MrYum 2007-01-05 08:22 PM

It's certainly not an auto decline with me...if used sparingly of course. I still see it once in a while, though not a lot...which is just fine :)

Not aware of anyone that instantly declines for its use, but there may be some out there.

still use it? Which browsers display it? i tried a test with IE and it doesnt blink, just plain old static text

You could try cobbling together some javascript code that changes the font-color property on a timer. 3-5 lines of code (maybe).

Very few if any reviewers will allow js on free sites.

As to where it works, I use FF for all reviewing and browsing. Do check my own pages in IE for compatibility issues of course.

Blink still works in FF...just checked IE and you're right...no joy there :(

here this is kind of funny and you can read the full thing at wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blink_tag )
Quote:

Despite the element being initially popular amongst personal homepages, it has since fallen into disfavor due to its overuse and the difficulty it presents in reading. The tag achieved notoriety for being extremely user-unfriendly and epitomized many websites when the Internet first received limited popularity amongst home users.

The inventor of the blink tag, Lou Montulli, has said repeatedly in interviews that he considers "the blink tag to be the worst thing I've ever done for the Internet".
now i think that's just rude for such a cute little tag LOL

This disturbs me a bit. The reason is that I use TTT to do traffic trades on my TGP and part of TTT is ttt-in.php which sets the cookie on the end users browser using a single line of js.

I can somewhat understand the rationale for killing blink. The trend in doctypes starting with XHTML 1.0 has been to move formatting tags out of the doctype completely and into CSS. The reason is to seperate the data from the formatting (good luck in *HTML since they've been comingled from the start). Maybe this is MS' move to force the process along.

This is somewhat aking to FF having made somewhat of a focus to do away with obsolete js compatibility by forcing usage of modern element addressing schema.

you can blink with CSS although I think it doesn't work with Internet Explorer

That is funny.

I always thought that was limited to netscape and was limted to IE.

wouldn't be so bad if you could control the attributes.

I found a ready made javascript that would allow you to control the attributes of blinking text and it actually made it pretty fancy. but then the whole java thing sort of goes agsinst what i was saying which is;

isnt blink cute and useful? heh heh

Most reasonable people don't care if you use javascript.

I use it for geo ads all the time.

The only problem is submission scripts that automaticly reject because of it.

Although I don't think I'll go through that trouble over something like

Graphics are better for that
