Just signed on to the board...hello!

Hello everyone. I'm new to the boards and wanted to introduce myself to all. I had decided to come out of lurk mode and jump in. I've only been in the porn business for five months now, but it is starting to show alot of promise! Already getting the sign-ups and it's becoming rewarding.

Greenguy, I'm originaly from NY state...so wanted to say hello to a fellow NYer. My wife and I are currently living in the deep south.

Anyways...hello everybody! |waves|

The rest of us won't hold the unfortunate accident of your birth in N.Y. against you. |jester|

Hey Greenguy AND Jim...how are you guys? I'm originaly from Onieda county in central NY. The snowbelt region (30 + years of that was enough!). A death in my wifes family had us coming to the deep south to live for the last year and a half. 50-60 degrees and sunny in Jan., beats the hell out of 25-30 deg. and 2 feet of snow right now!

X-mas isn't the same without the snow, but doesn't take long to get used to the nicer climate.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome here.

Greenguy 2004-01-12 08:46 PM

I'm way west just south of Buffalo, but Jim lives in Herkimer County :)

Again, thanks for the welcome |waves|

Hi Bell, yes I do have a NY accent...to a point. I have that, almost long island/almost bronx thing going on. Growing up around Italians and haveing german roots does that to ya.

And hello to DD, MrMaryLou, Extreme John and you too Bell. And everyone else who was kind enough to welcome me aboard.

Greenguy 2004-01-13 09:46 AM

Unless you're from the NYC area, you have no accent! We sound like everyone else on TV :)

Yeah...faggetabowtit. You's got a dolla ta spare? ;)

BTW, when I lived abroad and worked with Candians (bastards), they had great fun knockin' on my accent.

We put an 'awe' where flat 'ah''s should go.

I was given a verbal quiz as follows:

1) What is the sound a crow makes?

K-AWE K-AWE

2) What is the thing you use to cut wood?

S-AWE

3) What do you put on pasta to make a nice flavor?

Sa-AWE-U-ce

...can't recall the others.

Watch Seinfeld for proper understanding. ;)

You just can't win. Even after a year+ somewhere else the native folks will still pick up on your accent, but when ya come home people then proceed to make fun of the accent you picked up. I was told I sounded 'funny' and like a Candian.

When I say "coffee" properly...it was hysterical to people. Of course, the proper NY way is Cawwwwwwwfee.

Oh- one of the words I just cannot say corrctly enough to make a friend of mine from Croatia understand is "draw". I just couldn't make that word flat enough even after my candian influences.

I had to specify- "That thing you pull out over there..." then get up and show him. |jester|

What really bugged the hell out of me (sometimes) was moving here to the south, with my half assed accent from beaing around too many Italians back home, was people here looked at me and couldn't understand me at times. And why is it that some or alot more people here in the south seem to think everyone from NY state is ALWAYS from NY city? Ahh well...one of those perpetual annoyances I guess huh?

Then again that southern "drawl" got the best of me too at the start of all this!

jennym 2004-01-13 04:02 PM

Welcome CybrFire|bananna|

So, where are ya' in the south?

I'm in Mobile, AL. That supposably big & stressfull city that made it on the list of the places w/biggest stresses or whichever to live in. |jester|

Mobile is definitly not that big, I don't feel stressed and it's actually a pretty pleasant place sometimes...when it's not hotter than hades or raining enough to warrent the building of another ark.

Right now it's 65 degrees & it's Jan. Pretty pleasant...wouldn't you say?

Hey, not bad at all...we're almost neighbors! Me and my wife ended up here from NY state & it's a good deal...no snow, feels like an indian summer to me (even in Jan.) and there's some really good food around this part of the state.

BTW...never said a proper hello to you. Hi JennyM, great to meet you. |waves|
