Which POP Email client do you use?

I used to work with Outlook Express but I would like to change it.

Which email client would you recommend as an alternative to Outlook ? |confused|

TheBat! :)

Back before I switched to Mac's built-in mail client I used Eudora and really liked it.

Linkster 2007-01-31 06:30 PM

Have used Eudora for years - love it/hate it :) But sure beats the pants off outlook

JackDaniel's 2007-01-31 06:34 PM

I'll try your suggestions tonight ! Thanks |roses|

You might try Mozilla's Thunderbird. And you might consider IMAP rather than pop if that is an option.

I've used thunderbird for a while and its pretty quick, does everything I need, has a lot of the phishing stuff in there and lets you know when it thinks it is getting a scam email.

Eudora's 7.1 is nice for $19.95 (their free version has ads within which really aren't that intrusive)

I've used Thunderbird for a little over two years. I've been quite pleased with it.

another vote for Thunderbird here, I switched from Outlook too. Plus I can skin it with the same theme as my Firefox, so it looks cooooool :D

JackDaniel's 2007-01-31 07:16 PM

I've made my decision. :D

I'll use Thunderbird |love|

I notice that IMAP seems to be better for someone that uses multiple computers to access their email. What other reasons is for someone to use IMAP over pop?

I did just switch all my accounts over to IMAP just now. :)

cd34 2007-01-31 08:48 PM

I use IMAP because I can access email from multiple machines or devices. Its a bit quicker when you deal with a lot of mail because it only downloads the headers until you are ready to view the messages (depending on your email software)

The only real detriment to it is when you are sending large attachments -- for some dumb reason, imap sends the original message to the person, then, has to send the attachment & message up to your sent-mail folder.

Cleo 2007-01-31 08:53 PM

Yeah that is why I decided to switch.

I can't believe I've been dealing with seeing all my messages both read and unread each time I went to a different machine and then trying to figure out which ones I already viewed and replied to and which ones I hadn't when all I had to do was switch over from pop to IMAP.

I see it even lets me view messages that I've saved as drafts and haven't sent yet, sweet.

use entourage (mac) and the mail client that comes with os x. Both have their strengths. Also have gmail for personal stuff as it does a great job with the spam.

Here's another vote (albeit a late one) for Thunderbird |thumb

Made the switch from Outlook years ago, would never go back.

Not bad! :) Thunderbird looks similar to Outlook.. so it's easy to switch with these two clients :)

Cleo, since you are using Mac's mail, how did you switch from POP to IMAP? I am afraid of losing the emails I already have in my accounts.

Jim 2007-02-01 06:26 AM

I've been using eudora since 97 I think. Something cool about it is all you have to do is copy the directory to a laptop and it seems to work fine. No installing...it just works for some reason.

I just created a new account in Mail.app and then deleted my old. If you have messages in your old account drag them to your new account before deleting it. Same thing with your sigs.

rachelo 2007-02-01 12:22 PM

OK, Thanks Cleo, that makes sense.

Lisa 2007-02-01 04:57 PM

Pegasus...for about 7 years now.

Tis free, and extremely functional. http://www.pmail.com

I like it. :)

Cleo 2007-02-01 05:11 PM

Wow what a difference using IMAP over pop has been. :)

I'm sitting here soaking in the bathtub using this old little laptop that I sometimes use and I don't have to deal with my mail client downloading all my messages that have already been read on another computer and trying to figure out which I haven't read yet.
